note: also appears in part on Flixster and The Student Room Woody Allen has had quite a noted dry spell in the last ten years especially. While he has had the odd hit, such as Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Match Point, he's also had some fairly routine Allen outings such as Anything Else that have pilfered from his earlier efforts without adding any sort of contemporary insight. Nevertheless, even the worst Allen films are generally still above-average efforts, and so Hollywood Ending, while minor Allen, is still a fun film with a zany concept that fits in well with his corpus of work. Hollywood Ending is a 2002 comedy film written and directed by Woody Allen. In the film, Allen plays Val Waxman, a once serious and respected film director now reduced to shooting deodorant commercials in Canada. The struggling Val is naturally delighted to receive an offer out of the blue to direct a big-budget New York picture but is dismayed to hear that the offer originates from former wife Ellie (Téa Leoni) and that he would have to work with both her and suave studio boss Hal (Treat Williams), the man Ellie left him for.
