A review of just the film - a region 1 DVD is available through amazon for less than £5. Imagine if the hit TV show Lost had been a black and white West German exploitation flick shot on a microscopic budget about 'dancers' being menaced by a giant spider. That's the essence of Horrors of Spider Island, a wonderful little film from 1959. A troupe of (allegedly American) dancers on their way to Singapore get stranded on an island with their manly manager. Unfortunately there's also a very unfriendly, over-sized spider lurking in the bushes. His bite transforms the manager into a kind of weird spider monster, and then the fun really begins... Or ... 80. Horrors of Spider Island (1960) [film only review] Fans of the old black and white era monster movies hoping for some no frills fun should do a quick about turn. What we have here is a west german nudie picture, spiced up with a brief and tenuous mutant spiders plot, then later having most of the nude scenes cut out. I guess they thought after having toured the 'raincoat' cinemas, they could later try and flog it at some more mainstream places. With or without the nudity the quality of the film isn't really affected; merely it's practical applications.
