This is recent a CGI-cartoon adaptation from 20th Century Fox, based on Dr Suess' much-loved children's book. The original story basically has a simple 'message' - nice and subtly delivered, like all the 'morals' you'll find in Dr Suess - which I suppose could be summarized as being all about the importance of doing what you know to be the right thing, even in the face of popular / public opinion. This charming tale, whimsically told in Dr Suess' distinctive rhyming style, features Horton the big-hearted elephant, who, on account of his large ears, is the only one of his contemporaries able to hear the cries for help from a minute race of people - the 'Whos' - who ... I have never read a Dr. Seuss book, nor do I intend to now that I am 22. I have seen, however, several of the films. I managed to sit through the "Grinch who stole Christmas", which I did not particularly enjoy and "The Cat in the Hat" which I detested. Why then did I press the record button when I was going through movies on Sky+ for "Dr. Seuss' Horton hears a Who!"? Well the simple answer is that I thought the name was cool and I was in the mood for some light entertainment. I could always delete it if after 10 minutes I felt like I was wasting 83 minutes of my precious life, after all I wasn't paying to watch it. So on to sky+ it went. ... Read the complete review

note: also appears in part on The Student Room and Flixster Horton Hears a Who is not one of the most acclaimed animated films you'll ever see, nor did it make a particularly big impact upon its release, nor is it really particularly memorable in any way, but it's a solid diversion to take the kids to, and is rather well animated for a film outside the real of animation masters Pixar. The film begins as a sensitive, intelligent elephant named Horton (Jim Carrey) hears a noise coming from a speck of dust, and thus believes that some family of lifeforms are living on it. He soon enough discovers that on the speck lives an entire town called Whoville ... Read the complete review

There are numerous reasons why I turned out the way that I am today. The many times I was dropped on my head as a child. My penchant for eating sand, grass, cat food, or anything else that was not tied down as a baby. However, one of the biggest influences must be the books and films I loved growing up. Whilst well adjusted children were watching Disney to teach them values of love and friendship; I was watching 'Time Bandits' and learning about stealing and sarcasm. The sane majority of kiddies read the likes of 'Spot the Dog' for their tentative first steps on the ladder of literacy. I choice a different route, the insane world of Dr Seuss. I loved his sense of ... Read the complete review

Horton the elephant lives in the jungle of Nool with all his other animal friends. But one day everything suddenly changes for Horton when he hears voices coming from a tiny speck of dust. He saves the speck of dust and carries it around with the utmost care. But no one else believes that a town of people could possibly be living in a speck of dust and so Horton becomes the target of ridicule with everyone thinking he is crazy. The mean Kangaroo thinks he is a bad influence on the children teaching them about things that don't really exist, and she encourages the rest of Nool to turn against Horton and destroy the speck of dust. Meanwhile, the people of ... Read the complete review
