Spoofs have always been hilarious, and a favourite of mine. So when I heard that the classic Hot Shots and Hot Shots: Part Deux (the spoofs of hit action movie Top Gun) were coming out on DVD, I jumped for joy! This film is hilarious from start to finish. The whole film is a spoof movie as a parody of Top Gun. Charlie Sheen stars in the film as Topper Harley a renegade pilot who enjoys breaking all the rules, but is still the best pilot in the unit. There is a story line to this film, but it really doesn’t matter. The film is a collection of many, many hilarious events and incidents. If you haven’t seen Top Gun then this film will not be as funny to watch, but I am sure you will still enjoy it. A spoof of Iron Eagle, Top Gun and all those other air combat movies we were plagued, uh, blessed with for several years, Hot Shots is a comedy in the same vein as Airplane, Police Academy, and such time-honored favorites. Name-based wordplay, lowbrow jokes and physical humor persist throughout, as our protagonist strives diligently to live down his past, beat the bad guys, win the girl, and so on and so forth. Spoofing Top Gun for all it's worth, this film is pure birlliance... who'd have thought air brakes were that effective, and it's even got some stupid balancing on the back of motorbikes/horses in it, with obvious hilarious consequences. Of course, it stars Charlie Sheen in the "Tom Cruise" top pilot sort of role, and he's actually quite good at the gung ho heroism sort of thing. Hots Shots is a hilarious comedy spoof that is from the same guys who gave us the joys of Airplane and Naked Gun and is in my opinion the funniest of the lot of them.
