I remember seeing the trailer for this at the cinema, and I thought that it would be the usual Hollywood standard horror remake, splashed with a bit of humour, and all whipped together with "state of the art" special effects, to hide the poor acting. With the story being something like, five people are will be given One Million Dollars, if they survive the night, but then things start to go wrong. After seeing a lot of mixed reviews of it on its cinema release I decided to give it a miss. Then I saw it on offer in Dixons on DVD for £12.99, I thought I might as well get it as it can’t be that bad. And after the first quarter of an hour, I ... Read the complete review

Did I spell prarie right? Oh well, nevermind! Anyway a friend of mine who recently bought the DVD of this movie was kind enough to lend me it, and after watching it last night I guess I'm at the right peak of thought to review this film. 'House On Haunted Hill' is basically the 1999 remake of the 1958 William Castle classic horror tale. I haven't seen the original version, but if both films are identical, than they're hardly classic, but not entirely duds. The plot is basic. An amusement park owner Stephen (or is it Steven...nevermind!) Price; master of spooks, and his wife concoct a plan where 5 guests are invited to spend the night in an old ... I enjoyed this film alot I think mainly for the special effects and one part (I won't say which so as not to ruin) really did freak me out, I watched the movie on dvd so had the special feature (on reigion 1) of the comparison between the original and this new version which was pretty cool, back to the special effects I don't know if anyone else thought this but if anyone is familiar with the Marilyn Manson song "The Beautiful People" I thought the special effects were very similar to that video with like the fast movement ant the wierd colours but maybe thats just me, oh and also the Marilyn Manson version of "Sweet Dreams" is played during .. I didn't really expect to watch this film and be scared, but I was wrong. Maybe blood and gore means nothing to the new generation, seeing as we have encountered films like 'Scream' etc. This film is a remake, but a very good remake, considering the orginal was a bit, well, out of date. The film centres around an old, disused mental institute that was the scene of many horrible experiments preformed by Dr Vannicutt on his mental patients! The patients revolted in the 30's and the place burnt to the ground killing all but 5 people. A Theme park owner, and general all round trickster (Vincent Price) and his wife who hates him plan her birthday ... Read the complete review

Its been years since a film has scared me (not since Pet Semetary actaully) and i had really high hopes for this one. Sexy cast, 18 certificate and a blood red cover...what more can one man need? The story goes a bit like this. Theres an eccentric millionaire who builds scary rides. He and his much younger wife are a bit weird to say the least. She wants to have her birthday party in a disused mental asylum which has been empty since 1930. He, being weird, offers the guests a million pounds if they stay in the house till dawn. If anyone dies, the rest get more. He's rigged the place to scare the bejesus out of them....and there we have the classic ... Read the complete review
