Howards End is one of my favourite books as well as favourite film but I had better stick to the brief here! The film was made by Merchant-Ivory in 1992, another of their EM Forster adaptations, but it makes A Room with a View seem rather slight in comparison. Don't think that the combination of EM Forster and Merchant-Ivory immediately equals cucumber sandwiches for tea and people playing croquet on the lawn - this is a film about social and class boundaries, and what becomes of those who try to transgress them.
