Generally considered to be a turkey (!), Howard the Duck is a 1986 sci-fi comedy about an anthropomorphic duck who finds himself sucked from his own dimension to Earth, whereupon he is lost and confused until he is befrended by struggling female rock musician Beverly (Lea Thompson) and constantly harassed by goofy and fascinated scientist Phil Blumburrt, played in an over-the top manner by Tim Robbins of Shawshank redemption fame. Things soon get much worse however as the same military/science machien that pulled Howard to earth allows a grotesque otherworldly demon or 'Dark Overlord' to possess the body of a Professor Jennings (Jeffrey Jones), who then goes on a violent ... In all my 17 years on this Earth I have never ever been so entertained as I was the first time I watched this film, and still, today, I hold it as one of my favourites of all time. The storyline suggests a cheesy, cliched, boring piece of Sci-Fi that will only interest you if drunk and alone…! Well, that may be slightly true for the more narrow minded among us. But if you open up a little and take this film for what it actually is I think you’ll find it a very enjoyable and up-lifting experience watching it. That is to say, it’s not boasting to be the best scripted, acted and most intelligent movie ever made, it’s not saying ‘there ... Read the complete review

Howard failed because people dont like the idea of a talking duck being the hero of an action comedy, but look past the feathers and theres a really enjoyable flick here. When our hero is transported from his home planet, he discovers that the only way back is through a giant laser, crated to view distant systems. However, there are men on this earth who would do nasty things to a talking duck, and Howard must rely on his only friend, a young girl, and her doctor friend, Dr Jennings. However a bkast from the laser brings down something else, and it inhabits Jennings body and becomes intent on bringing his friends to the party. Enter Howard who must save the day ... Mention Howard the Duck to most people and they'll either have never heard of it or else they'll immeadiatly pan it. I have to say that I actually quite enjoy the film, it's not one of the greats, but it's a great film to just switch off an watch. You dn't need to concentrate, just sit back and enjoy the absurdity of it all. Howard is a duck who lives on a planet of ducks in a distant galaxy. Experiments on Earth with a new kind of telescop manage to pull him from his planet down to Earth. The first person to encounter Howard is a would be rock singer, played by Lea Thompson. She befriends him and tries to help him in his quest to return to ... Read the complete review

My first impressions of this movie were, why am i watching this trash!! Although now after seeing the whole thing, and wearing out the original tape through playing it on the VCR i am thinking, 'Great film' It all starts with howard the duck being transported to earth from his home planet, and with a constant string of humour, we follow the character throughout his quest on earth, to find out how he got here and how to get back home, but whle he is here he becomes the unlikley hero and saviour from an alien invasion. On his journey he meets some colourful people but i won't tell you too much about the plotline for fear of spoiling the film should you wish ... Read the complete review
