Advantages: Thrilling, Interesting and engaging story, Some good effects

This thriller was a reasonably good film but started off too slowly for my liking. Robert Neville is the only man left in New York after a horrendous virus has taken over many people's lives and turned them into gruesome monsters. He attempts to cure the virus by working with the monsters he has caught. The question is: Will he find a cure?

The film starts off rather slow and confusing too as it flicks back between flash backs and the present. The slowness seems to be emphasised by the emptiness of the streets to give a lonely feeling. Robert travels with his dog, Sam who was handed over before his mother and son flew away after being checked and not having the virus. The story starts to unwind slowly and it gets more exciting, especially towards the end.

As for the filming itself, I would say there are some good shots and the feeling of emptiness created is very impressive. There are shots with hundreds of stranded cars all in the familiar views of New York city. The monsters are similar to those in other films, but they maintain a basic human shape, which makes them more believable and the story more realistic. The fact that it's possible a virus could spread around the world in the future brings interest to the film and gives you a shocking insight into life as it would be.

For £9.98, you can get a copy of the film from amazon.co.uk. I would recommend it as I did enjoy watching it, however it is nothing too special.
