Advantages: Nice acting.

Disadvantages: Poor zombie models, slow storytelling, not enough action and too many quiet sections.

I watched this film with high hopes. A zombie movie with a brilliant actor based upon a successful older movie? How good will it be? Personally, I didn't care for it much at all.

The movie is extremely slow to get going as the viewer is shown the protagonists world and is shown the sequences of events leading up to the end of the world in flashback form.

Will Smith, playing a scientist, acts well but is let down by the shoddy presentation of the movie and the long, boring "filler" sections where the story is quickly explained in sometimes excessive detail, such as when the viewer watches Will partaking hin his usual daytime activities without any real story development taking place.

There are a few things which really annoyed me about this movie. The story is predictable and presented in a very predictable way (I can't imagine what it must be like to someone who's seen the original movie).
Also, without giving away the end of the story, Will does something really daft which could have been completely avoided. This wasn't a good decision by the producer and just seems to be a quick event that wasn't really thought out in order to make the movie fall in line with the original.
The zombies, computer generated obviously, also look quite poor. They all look exactly the same, as though the designer made one and just did whatever the equivalent of copy and paste is for movie editing programs.

This is the first poor zombie film I've seen, which has been a let down for an otherwise exciting and entertaining genre. If you are a fan of horror or action films (as this film claims to be), then avoid.

Summary: A sub-standard zombie film with not much to offer any movie audience.
