Advantages: Will Smith, some good action/suspense scenes
Disadvantages: Takes a while to get going, too much CGI
Will Smith plays the last man alive in this relatively interesting half action movie, half horror movie.
The film is set in New York City in 2012 where 75% of the human population has been wiped out, killed by a virus that was meant to be a cure for cancer. The other 25% have been turned into monsters that stay inside during the day, but come out at night, terrorising the city.
Will Smith's character is a scientist, immune to the deadly virus and determined to find a cure to save the human race. He spends his days exploring the city and attempting to contact other survivors.
The film shows a terrifying vision of the near future, and what could go wrong as a result of forthcoming advances in medicine. It's 15-rated and not intended for kids, who could be scared by some of the more gory moments (although there aren't too many).
I enjoyed watching this movie, although it wasn't quite the amazing blockbuster that I had hoped for. My major complaint is that there's a bit too much CGI in there for me, which kind of took the authenticity of the film away. Still worth a watch though, especially if you're a Will Smith fan.
Summary: Great storyline, but not quite enough happens
