Advantages: jumpy in places
Disadvantages: poor plot
I know what you dod last summer Starring - Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Freddie Prinze Jr, Jennifer Love Hewitt Director - Jim Gillespie Running time - 97 mins (vhs) Life seems perfect, as the four friends, julie, helen, ray and barry celebrate the night of the end of high school...they get into barry's new beamer and take a drive......that ends in destruction. They have an accident on the road...they hit and kill a man. In the panic of the moment they think about what there lives would be like if they owned up to the crime....instead they dump the body in the sea, and vow to keep quiet about what happened. One year later a note appear..."i know what you did last summer"...but how can someone know when the friends swore to take the secret to the grave with them..... As the plot continues it is obvious it is a rip off from Scream. There are some good scenes, but non that are really scary or gruesome...abit of a let down in comparison to other 'teen slasher' films. Gellar plays a great role, as teen beauty queen, although being a fan of hers from Buffy i feel her talent was slightly wasted, as the character was weak for her talent (the character was more of a looks first brains last type of deal). Hewitt played a convincing role, although (giving away a story) i thought gellar would have been better off staying in the film 'till the end, rather than Hewitt. If you havent seen it before then it is worth a look...but i think you have to be a fan of the actors/actresses to be able to get enjoyment from this otherwise average product. (A film based on it's stars and not it's plot is what comes to mind). To conclude, a basic storyline only made bearable through actors struggling to make their characters believable. Ok now for those who have already watched once...time for spot the errors...... 'When Max is killed by the ki
ller he gets hooked in the chin, but when the killer puts him in the trunk of Julie's car and we see his body, no wound is visible on his neck!' and..... 'In the scene where Julie and Helen are looking at the computer and have like 7 articles of things about Billy Egan, if you look really closely at the one on top you can see the year he graduated was 1993. Later in the movie when Julie, Helen, and Barry are looking at Elsa's yearbook it shows that both Elsa and Billy Egan graduated in 1992. Guess the producers can get hot actresses, but can't get the year of a dead guy graduating high school right.'
