Advantages: clever, great plot, good twist
Disadvantages: -
I had seen a lot of trailers in the cinema for this film and my first impression was a scary movie. It was the part when they say it's my birthday next week, me to, me too, yeah. This part is not significant though, well it actually is in some ways but not as in that is the reason why they are dying it is more complex than this. It was a great trailer though because it did it's job and I had to go see it to find out what the film was about. As the film begins we hear police men and detectives talking about someone we are told the story of a boy who was left at a motel when he was 10 and his mum was a prostitue. Getting to the point while they talk you then see all of the 10 people and how they end up at the motel. John Cusack is driving an actress to LA when he accidentally runs over a woman then her and her family have to be taken to the nearest place for help. The rain is bad and everywhere is flooded so they can get not help for her. While John Cusack leaves the woman who has been hit by the car and her family also the actress at the motel he drives out to get help. While he drives he then picks up someone who turns out to be Amanda Peet and she seems to have stolen some things and is running away. They can't pass a certain part in the road so then a young couple in a car will help, this is Clea DuVall. They all go back to the motel. While they are there the receptionist checks them in but he is a bit strange like he doesn't know what he is doing. Ray Liotta is then a policeman who turns up with a criminal who is meant to be getting killed in the morning. Noone really feels happy about this but he is tied up so it should be fine. There we have it our ten people in the motel then things start to go wrong and what perfect setting than a stormy night where everywhere is flooded and they are all alone in a motel with a criminal. This film is not obvious of who is doing the murdering which makes it very different my
mind changed all of the time and I had so many ideas in my mind of possible endings. The killings begin and we don't really get much of a clue as to who is doing them but all that is left behind are the room keys from 10-1. They are found beside every death and it is really hard to find out who has done it. The director has done a fantastic job the suspense is great and the ending left me satisfied that the film wasn't ruined. This is not your regular slasher movie because it isn't like Scream or anything where everyone has been killed until there are only 2 people left making it really obvious. This film doesn't ever seem like a cheap plot and a waste of money it is just brilliant. We don't get much information about the characters apart from some names and how they got there. I had kind of guessed the ending a little at the start but there is more than one part to the ending. The good thing about the film is that it begins right away so there is not waiting but it doesn't typically begin with a death it makes you watch for longer to see any blood. I like the way the film has been made so that at one point in the film every character could be a possibility to the killer. The cast is good in this film not your usualy cast for a film like this but some big names and they all did a really good job. For some this is a very different part. I recently saw Amanda Peet in Igby Goes Down and have to say this was a great change and good to see her play an opposite character she did really well here. Ray Liotta as always is someone you have your eye on throughout the film because he usually plays the bad guy and you don't know if he will change in this film. This film definitely won't appeal to everyone. There will be the people who say that this film is not good either because they honestly didn't like it or because they didn't understand it. There will be the people like me who thought it
was worth seeing because it is a change and shows the writer has some intelligence to make a good film witha great twist. There will then be the people who thought it was ok but the ending ruined it. This type of film can never please a full audience but will definitely make some people happy. It is a 15 certificate which I agree with because any younger you just won't understand it. This film lasts for approximately 90 minutes. IDENTITY IS IN CINEMA NOW
