Advantages: brilliant storyline, splended cast

Disadvantages: none

The movie “If These Walls Could Talk 2’ is an anthology of three stories set in the same sub-urban house. The movie explores the lives of three lesbian couples during three different decades.
The first story takes place during 1960’s.Vanessa Redgrave and Marian Seldes plays the role of a lesbian couple who have been living together since childhood. One night when Abby (Marian Seldes)suffers a stroke, Edith(Vanessa Redgrave)is not allowed to meet her at the hospital room because she isn’t a family in the traditional sense. When Abby dies in the middle of the night no one in the hospital bothers to tell Edith that Abby is dead even though she has been waiting all the night. After the death of Abby, Edith about 50 years old at that time faces denial and prejudice from the family of her dead lover. Unable to cope with the complex situation she is forced to suffer a life of distraught. The first segment tells the bitter story of prejudice and hardship faced by lesbians in the society. Vanessa Redgrave does justice to her role. She was simply superb in her grief and sorrow.
The second story takes place during 1970’s feminist era. Linda (Michelle Williams) and three of her friends were removed from an on-campus woman’s group for supporting lesbian cause. In an attempt to forget this, the four friends go to an only lesbian bar in the town. In the bar Linda meets Amy (Chloe Sevigny) a butch and falls in love with her. But Linda’s friends do not accept Amy as they see Amy’s masculine attire as a form of self-loathing against being a woman. The story is well told and portrays the schisms existing between different group of lesbians and feminists. The second segment also features some nude and explicit love scenes between Linda and Amy.
The third story features Fran (Sharon Stone) and Kal (Ellen DeGeneres) as the lesbian couple now occupying the house. Both Fran and Kal wanted to have a baby. When a gay friend who has promised to provide the sperm reconsidered his decision they began searching the sperm bank. Fran begins to ovulate, but many of her attempts to become pregnant fails. However both the couples remain calm and after many attempts Fran finally becomes pregnant. The third segment is funny and entertaining, though the storyline is weak when compared with the other two segments.
The movie originally made for HBO is a story of love, prejudice and struggle of lesbians in society. The movie also explores that changes that has resulted in the lives of lesbians in America. The movie is worth watching.
