(film only review) When I think of the film, the colour yellow, the golden yellow of ripe grain, comes to my mind. After the lights came on, a woman in the cinema remarked, “I didn’t know that such a landscape existed in Italy.” Why should she, why should anyone? This is not tourist Italy, the film is set in the south of the region Apulia in the south of Italy, the sea is far away, there are no cultural highlights that would lure people to visit, it’s one of the parts of Italy people emigrate from. Scorching southern Italy, 1978. Five children ride their bikes through golden fields to find a dilapidated house. In the middle of nowhere, they play there for a while, daring each other to do silly things - walking on a dangerous beam, rotting wood threatening to give way any minute and a nasty fall beckoning is the ultimate challenge.
