The story centres around character Evan who works night and day as a financial executive and is under pressure to work harder than his competitive colleagues. His daughter Olivia comes to stay with him and he hardly spends any time with her and is more concerned with his job. She has a magic blanket and imaginary friends that she likes to talk too. He starts to realise that these things are capable of predicting stock investments. Will he use Olivia t...more

Premium Review Imagine That (DVD): Wish i had have imagined it instead of seen it! (418 words)

Rating:

I went and seen this film in the cinema recently with my boyfriend. I have gone off Eddie Murphy a bit as i dont think he is as funny as he used to be so i wasnt really looking forward to it. It was my boyfriends idea to go and see it so i thought i would go for him. If you have never seen Imagine That, it is a comedy drama film that came to our screens this year in 2009. It was directed by Karey Kirkpatrick and the total running time is 107 minutes altogether. It has a good cast apart from Eddie Murphy including Martin Sheen, Thomas Haden Church, Yara Shahidi and Ronny Cox. I like Martin Sheen as an actor so was really glad he was in ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Murphy almost back on form (304 words)
by - written on 20/10/09 (Very useful, 2 readings)
Rating:

Given how successful and how down right funny Eddie Murphy was in the 1980s with stand-up shows such as Raw and Delirious, and of course his timeless Beverly Hills Cop trilogy (even if the third installment is simply so-bad-it's-good), it's a shame that his recent output has been mediocre at best; Norbit in particular was awful, and Meet Dave was only a slight step up from that. Imagine That is at least a step in the right direction despite its myriad flaws as a film, dramatically and comically. The film revolves around a financial executive named Evan Danielson (Eddie Murphy), who is struggling with the economic downturn and really can't seem to do anything ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Imagine That (DVD): Time to visit the imaginary people, Eddie! (411 words)
by - written on 14/10/09 (Very useful, 27 readings)
Rating:

A rather silly film, Imagine That sees Eddie Murphy as he is going through a less successful part of his acting life. The star of the 80s and 90s in many ways, it's fair to say that this decade hasn't really been his best, and Imagine That follows the run of disappointing films such as Haunted Mansion and Norbit. He has had some success with the Shrek films, as the annoying donkey, and it is his voice, and no doubt his ad libbing, that has kind of kept this film from being a complete failure. Murphy plays Evan Danielson, a financial exec whose career is on the verge of collapse at the hands of Johnny Whitefeather when he realises his daughter's imaginary ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Eddie Murphy back on the Big Screen - this time he isn't a d ... (875 words)

====Film only review======(released in UK cinemas on 14/08/09) I can hardly claim to have followed Eddie Murphy's career closely, but as a teenager in the eighties I remember the glory days of "Beverly Hills Cop", and know that his career has had its peaks and troughs. Most recently I know that Murphy has been the voice of Donkey in Shrek, but this is his most recent comedy non-animated film. When I had the opportunity to see this film in a preview showing I was wondering whether Eddie Murphy would manage to make me laugh or if I would be irritated as I was watching "The Nutty Professor" - actually albeit not a Murphy specialist ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Imagine That (DVD): Imagine missing this, it is not hard to do (346 words)
by - written on 17/08/09 (Very useful, 34 readings)
Rating:

Eddie Murphy is one of those actors you either love or hate, I liked him in Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America but after that he just got a bit annoying until he made use of his rather great comedy voice in the Shrek movies as the loud mouth character Donkey, he has capitalised on this success to carve out a new career in more family orientated comedies which is why I found myself taking my little niece to the cinema this weekend as she wanted to see Imagine That and we were spending the day in London. Murphy stars alongside a child actress called Yara Shield and he plays her father who is work obsessed and seperate from his daughter mother and thus sees ...  Read the complete review
