Advantages: Great story, great acting
Disadvantages: none
One of the best dark comedies I have ever seen. To go from some absolutely hilarious moments to, well I don't want to give away the plot but lets just say some not so funny moments, and to balance it so perfectly must have been a real challenge but its one that was managed perfectly.
Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson are two hitmen sent to hide out in Bruges by their boss, Ralph Fiennes, after a job goes wrong. All the actors perform their roles fantastically, with Farrell(the rookie killer) and Gleeson(the more experienced father figure) playing off each other superbly. Bruges provides a great backdrop for the action, the sights the city has to offer are certainly well used by the film makers.
Farrell manages to pull off a brilliant combination of the dramatic (you can't help but feel sympathy for him) and the comedic (the films funniest moments are down to him). Ralph Fiennes is also a brilliant pent up ball of anger who roars into Bruges for the films finalle and is wonderfully terrifying to watch. And while Gleeson tries to stay in the middle and keep things from spirally out of control events gradually take their course leading up to a fantastic finalle. Jordan Prentice also provides a great supporting role as a drugged up dwarf actor making a film on the streets of Bruges.
All the elements, the city, the acting and the storyline, really come together perfectly and have created a movie that really could go on to be considered a classic. Its brilliantly original and well made. I would definitely recomended buying on DVD and watching it as soon as possible if you haven't already!
Summary: A fantasic movie set against the beautiful backdrop of the city of Bruges
