Due to such high levels of expectation, people were bound to be left disappointed which many were with internet forums awash with cries of derision. I only got around to watching this on DVD a year after it's cinematic release, so the hype had well and truly died down. What I found was a highly enjoyable adventure film, in keeping with the others in the series. Perhaps my expectations were lower due to the negative response from some, I don...more

Crowned Review Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (DVD): I had a bad feeling about this... (943 words)

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - it sounds like a computer game, doesn't it? Which is odd, as the many computer games based on Harrison Ford's iconic archaeologist have tended to have fairly sensible titles not too far removed from the original trilogy of films. When rumours of a fourth Indy film began to bubble (pretty much as soon as The Last Crusade came out on video in the early 90s), there was even an official statement that the story would NOT be based on the plot to the classic Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Which is a shame, as that's still brilliant. But now Indy 4 is upon us, with a greyer, craggier Harrison Ford still ...  Read the complete review

In the day and age of waking up old film franchises from the grave (The Omen, Rambo, Rocky, Aliens and Predator, Halloween... the list goes on), one of the most anticipated since it was announced has obviously been the fourth installment in the Indiana Jones series. After 19 years, the beloved trilogy finally got the fourth installment made amid a lot of fanfare thanks to the script apparently having been in the works for almost two decades in order to make it "perfect". And after 19 years, fans of the original series were extremely pumped up to set up for another movie experience of their lives that they once experienced with the original trilogy. But as the ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (DVD): Fedora'ing fun! (film only) (1356 words)

Bah-da-bah-daaa! Ba-dah-daaaaah! Ah yes, once more one of the great movie theme tunes of all times is back in our cinemas - and my head, for at least a week leading up to the movie! I remember well missing the first 5 minutes of 'The Last Crusade' - I would have been 10, and watching in a flea pit of a movie house. Hurrah, then for a proper big screen outing for the world's favourite archaeologist! :) It's been 19 years since Harrison Ford last donned that famous fedora, and thankfully the film makers haven't stupidly tried to hide that. It's 1957, Indy is now Doctor and Colonel Jones, and still a professor to largely female classes of students at ...  Read the complete review

It's strange to walk out of a cinema having just seen a brand new Indiana Jones film. The last one seemed to wrap up the iconic and influential action series in 1989 but from the early nineties onwards there was constant speculation about one more adventure with stories of several scripts being rejected or further tweaked by new writers. Odds were probably always agaisnt the film happening but 2008 finally saw a new Indy adventure released in the form of Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. Is it any good? I have to say from the outset that this film has a very clumsy plot device that can only have sprung from George Lucas. The year is 1957 and ...  Read the complete review

It seems strange to think that it has been 19 years since the release of the last Indiana Jones film back in 1989. It is also stranger to recollect when the last film was at the cinema's the first Batman film and a James Bond film were also released at the same time in busy summer period, well here we are in the Summer of 2008 and guess what? Both Batman and Bond will be released this year as well. Guess what goes around comes around. This film being released so long after the Last Crusade is a big gamble on the part of Lucas and Spielberg. In an attempt to resurrect a profitable franchise in the same way as Stallone did with Rocky Balboa is a bold move ...  Read the complete review
