Advantages: Kids will enjoy
Disadvantages: I think the originals where far better
After seeing that Indiana Jones was showing on Sky movies my partner got lets say a little excited (guess blokes never grow out of Indiana). So with Pringles and a beer in hand we sat down and watched..
I was not sure about watching this film as when I was younger I loved the Indiana films, with all of the crazy stunts and impossible to get out of situations and I couldn't see how they could make a new one as good and somewhat cheesy as the originals, I have to say that even though this film has all of these things I just didn't enjoy it as much as I did when watching the older films, I guess when you are younger its more believable where as now all I kept saying was "that's impossible, that would never happen".
Basically at the start the good old Russians (inc Kate Blanchett who plays Irina Spalko) break into area 57 looking for some remains, Indiana discovers that his old friend Mac (played by Ray Winstone) double crosses him and helps the Russians, good old Indiana escapes but is then questioned by the FBI who don't believe his innocence in the matter. He then looses his job and decides to head to England but young lad (Shia LaBeouf) finds him and says his mum has been kidnapped he then gives Indiana a coded letter from his mother, this letter is a clue to the hiding place of the Crystal Skull, the adventure then gets going.
Harrison Fords acting throughout this film is very good as expected, although he has aged somewhat since the originals he still manages to pull of the action and adventure of the character. The addition of Harry (Shia LaBeouf, the young lad who gave Indiana the letter) to this film is also very good; he adds some humor to some of the situations they get in, and then later in the film Indiana rescues his old love (Karen Allen, Harrys Mum), which links the film to the originals quite well.
I have to say some of the stunts are very far fetched, hiding in a refrigerator to survive a nuclear bomb being one of them and Harry doing the splits between two cars whilst sword fighting being another, but that's what Indiana Jones is all about, a guy who gets into pretty much any situation and get out the other side without a scratch on him.
I think the biggest disappointment for me had to be near the ending, it was so far fetched I think it spoiled the whole film; it was not something that I would have ever expected to happen in an Indiana film.
Summary: Overall I think the kids will love this film, but I think the older versions are far better
