Advantages: STILL FEELS ORIGINAL
Disadvantages: SHAI LABOEUF AS THE SON
Steven Spielberg returns nineteen years after the first instalment to direct the action and adventure movie INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL.
Harrison Ford returns as Indianna Jones with his friend Mac played by Ray Winstone being kidnapped by some Russians led by Irina Spalko played by Cate Blanchett.
Escaping the car boot Jones and Mac have to get past their captors in search of the crystal skull with lots of whipping and dodging along the way. They are joined by Jone's son Mut played by Shia LaBoeuf who is intelligent even though he gets the gang into trouble.
The film follows the gangs as they try to gain the Crystal Skull, but who will get their first.
The film follows the same formula as the previous sagas. Nonetheless the film still seems original. The settings are mysterious and isolated and the outfits are the same. The legendary music still plays in certain scenes that makes the movie feel special. The plot is good and the action is fast paced. The special effects are amazing and are the highlight of the movie as we see things, fall, fly, explode and chases galore. The artefacts are very lifelike and add a sense of intrigue to procedings.
Harrison Ford although older is excellent as Indianna and Ry Winstone is superb as his friend. Cate Blanchett wasn't the best choice for bad woman as she wasn't scary enough. LaBoeuf added nothing to the movie as Indianna's son.
The dialogue I found was a bit too comical and needed some better writing.
The DVD extras include a commentary. galleries, deleted scenes and an extensive making of with interviews with the cast.
Lasting nearly two hours, with a 12 viewing certificate and avaliable from AMAZON at £3.98 this is a decent movie.
Summary: INDIANNA RETURNS!
