... but creating it would take years and leave its stain on Capote - the writing of the book is one of pain and love. As a fan of action, comedy and science fiction the likes of 'Infamous' would not normally pass my door. However, as well as starring British actor Toby Jones as Capote, 'Infamous' also stars one Daniel Craig as killer Perry Smith. My partner is currently watching all Craig's film (for some reason I cannot understand) and this came up - and I am glad it did. So often when I sit down to watch a drama they...more

Crowned Review Infamous (DVD): "Infamous" (2006) (1437 words)
by - written on 24/09/08 (Very useful, 84 readings)
Rating:

It's November, 1959, and the "Breakfast at Tiffany's" author Truman Capote, played by Toby Jones, comes across a small article in the newspaper concerning an unsolved quadruple homicide in the small country town of Holcomb, Kansas. Immediately interested in the story, the motivations of the killers and the effects it has had on the small town, a town where everyone knows everyone else, he sees a literary-important article in the works that might open up a whole new genre of writing. With his best friend Nelle Harper Lee (Sandra Bullock), author of "To Kill a Mockingbird", in tow, they set out to Holcomb in the hope of ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review The other Capote film (1339 words)
by - written on 16/11/07 (Very useful, 128 readings)
Rating:

Truman Capote, a writer and socialite, becomes obsessed with a crime committed in Kansas - the slaying of a family of four and he travels to Kansas with friend and fellow writer, Nelle Harper Lee. When the killers are found, Capote uses his skills as a writer to get access to them, hoping that by doing so, he can put together a bestseller. As his relationship with the killers, particularly Perry Smith, develops though, he becomes far more involved than expected - if he doesn't work out what Perry wants from him, he won't get the story that he needs for his book, but if he does work it out, he will have to betray Perry. Will he do 'the right thing?' And how will his ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Infamous (DVD): "They Seem Like Perfectly Nice Boys" (1455 words)
by - written on 07/11/07 (Very useful, 179 readings)
Rating:

Having recently joined Lovefilm, my household had become accustomed to the top choices of our list of films popping through the mailbox - this changed when recently, like a dull thud, came a film that was on our mid priority list. I had heard this happens with Lovefilm over time, so we shall see how this progresses. At any rate, the arrival of Infamous was met with a confused stare from hubby - "What's that?" Me (slightly confused as well as had forgotten what it was): "Er...it's the other Capote one". Now I had in fact wanted to see this at some point, despite not having seen the much lauded Capote. I figured I would see them both, but what little I ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review When Will I Be Infamous? (959 words)
by - written on 08/01/09 (Very useful, 91 readings)
Rating:

There are several ways to bag an Oscar, but generally you will have a better chance if you are in a film that - is based on real life, allows you to use a funny voice, and makes you look ugly. This tactic has worked for the likes of Kidman, Berry and countless others. For a man already a little on the 'plain' side getting uglied is not going to work so it was up to Philip Seymour Hoffman's acting chops to get the Oscar for his role as Truman Capote. Well done Hoffers! But wait! Unlike with most Oscar winning performances there is not usually a direct comparison that someone can make - how can you compare Depp's Captain Sparrow to a Daniel Day Lewis role? You can ...  Read the complete review
