Inspector Morse has to be a must-see for anyone who enjoys murder mystery drama. It hits the holy trinity of production values for a drama series, well-written, beautifully shot and wonderfully acted. John Thaw quite simply is Morse, and for better or worse will probably always be remembered as such. This is surely a testament to the actor's ability to inhabit a character. Yet an element of serendipity must be involved to have a part that matches an actor so well as to make it unimaginable for anyone else to even attempt playing this role. Praise must also be given to Kevin Whately, who as Morse's foil Lewis could so easily serve solely as a sounding board but ... Read the complete review

Inspector Morse is such an amazingly realised series that manages to blow the books upon which they are based out of the water. The casting and the scripts are excellent - could you imagine anyone else but John Thaw or Kevin Whately in these roles (the latter now appearing in his own spin off show, which still manages to be very enjoyable in its own right)? The late John Thaw plays the role of the titular character, Chief Inspector Endeavour Morse, a man who has three passions - his car, English Ale, and Classical Music. He has a keen mind and a faithful sidekick, Lewis (portrayed perfectly by Kevin Whately as mentioned above) and this boxed set contains every mystery ... Read the complete review
