It's always difficult translating the best selling contents of a book into the moving pictures of cinema. Even with a glossy exterior and superstar presence, that osmosis from printed word to reels of film can vex even the most talented of directors. So when an Anne Rice screenplay of an Anne Rice blockbuster fuse with the direction of Neil Jordan, the result is an potentially explosive combination of sprawling epic and missed opportunity. Interview with the vampire is the quite literal interpretation of the title. Based on the biopic tale of Louis de Pointe du Lac (Brad Pitt), Daniel Malloy (Christian Slater)is an opportunist writer listening to the ... Read the complete review

In great contrast to its horrendous *sequel* "Interview with the Vampire" is a beautiful portrayal of the Anne Rice bestseller. Directed by Neil Jordan, and written by Anne Rice, IWTV (I have to abbreviate, or my fingers will bleed) was released in 1994. The film was based upon the 1976 Anne Rice novel. Plot (ill try and keep this brief) ~~~~~~ Its San Francisco, present day. Louis(Brad Pitt), a bloke that claims to be a vampire is telling his story to a reporter (Christian Slater).Reporter bloke is not convinced, until Louis proves his vampirism by demonstrating his super human speedyness. Eager for a story, ... Read the complete review

The vampire film genre is a very hit and miss affair. Many films are low budget and fail to have a great impact, Near Dark being a possible exception. Big budget attempts like Bram Stokers Dracula seemed lose its direction, over doing the romantic angle and failing to deliver the goods in the horror department. Interview with the Vampire, however managed to have the right mix of ingredients, big name actors, a lavish set, great cinematography, romance and horror, and still managed to be faithful to a much lauded book. The Interview of the title acts as a good plot device to launch the film. Daniel Malloy (Christian Slater) is a sceptical journalist who is ... Read the complete review

The novel Interview with a Vampire was begging to be made into a film. Ok, maybe Anne Rice didn’t intentionally write it for this purpose, but one day it was going to happen – it was too much of a temptation to resist. And the result? Surprisingly good – for Hollywood, that is. With a screenplay written by Rice herself; co-produced by David Geffen; directed by Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) and with countless young virile ‘luvvies’ it had to be good. THE PLOT A reporter (Christian Slater) follows a man in search of learning about the city’s inhabitants. After following the dark stranger to his ... Read the complete review

When it was released in 1994 “Interview With The Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles” was hailed as an immediate triumph and some even went so far as to consider it “quite simply the best film in the whole world”. That is a bold statement, and a tremendous accolade to be thrust upon such a motion picture. Vampire movies are, generally, not all that successful in the mainstream eye. There are a few exceptions, and “Interview With The Vampire” is one of them. Following on from the vampire-laden success of Francis Ford Coppola’s epic “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” in 1992, Interview With The Vampire could be seen as ... Read the complete review
