Advantages: Paul Walker and Jessica Alba

Disadvantages: Characters arent too interesting

Into the blue was released in 2005 and is loosely based on the 1977 film The Deep which was based on the novel of the same name by Peter Benchley. It is 110 minutes long and rated 15 due to some violence, a lot of drinking and some mild bad language.

Plot
Jared and Sam are quite a normal couple, living in a trailer near a beach in the Bahamas. Sam is a guide at the local theme park while Jared is a diver and quite the dreamer. His passion is diving and wants to find lost ships and treasures buried under the water.

While Jared's friend Bryce and his girlfriend Amanda visiting they go snorkelling and Jared finds artefacts that seem to come from a ship wreck. As well as Jared, the other 3 are good divers so they all go and explore to see if they can find where these artefacts came from. The foursome find other pieces and figure out that they belong to a legendary French ship called the Zephyr, which has been lost for many years and is said to contain millions in gold.

Everyday they go back down in the water, trying to find the gold, but unfortunately, they aren't the only ones looking for the legendary pirate ship.

Paul Walker - Jared
Jessica Alba - Sam

Favourite quotes:
Sam: Last time you made chili and cornbread, your ex girlfriend was on the island. And then, the time before that, you brought home a pregnant, flea infested, three legged dog.

Bates: He found the Zephyr. Maybe we'll meet up in Never Never Land. 'Case I heard the tooth fairy was gonna be there.

Bryce: Winners make the rules and losers live by them.

My opinion
As cheesy as this film is at times, I cannot really find faults with the actors. I really like Jessica Alba and Paul Walker and neither of them disappointed me in this film. I thought they both played the lead roles very well and made each character very believable. Although Alba and Walker play the good guys, I found the baddies more memorable and more amusing.

I do wish we had gotten to learn a bit more about the characters' backgrounds. I think it would have made them a lot easier to relate to, instead I thought of them more as just some eye candy with a decent story to tell. It would have been nice to have a bit more depth to the characters in a film that I really liked.

The story of buried treasure has been done so many times now and at times can be somewhat boring and unoriginal. Into the blue have made the story slightly more realistic by showing the characters searching for it wanting all the fame and glory for themselves. Normally in these kind of films it is pirates etc looking for the treasure but Sam and Jared are a normal couple just trying to make ends meat and know this will set them up for life.

I really enjoyed this film and it had a great mix of action, intrigue and emotion, especially between Jared and Sam. It was nice to finally see someone stick to their morals (Sam) and not let the thought of being rich change them. I know so many people that hated this movie and it didn't do as well as it was supposed to. It is a long way from making my top 10 but it is a very enjoyable film with something for both sexes.

Summary: Not a truely bad film
