Advantages: Really paranoid
Disadvantages: none
At last a remake that is better than the original. These aliens decide to take us gently in our sleep, replacing our bodies with their soulless plant copies. Bizzare spores fall from space and then strange flowers start appearing all over town. Soon after husbands, wives and children find that their loved ones are changing overnight. A slow hysteria begins to creep through the community, just as the plants are creeping over those that sleep, stealing their characters and devouring their bodies. The conspiracy is thick amongst those who have 'changed', leaving all those who are still human in the minority and on the run. Donald Sutherland becomes a paranoid hero as San Francisco is slowly overrun by lethargic, unfeeling imitations of his friends and workmates. Leonard Nimoy is a great choice for his role as the psychiatrist, keeping up his performance of the unemotional intellect. The aliens "get you when you sleep", so the overall feeling of the film is that it is pointless to prolong the inevitable. When I watched the movie the first time, I was so upset, I really did think they were going to make it! This is a truely paranoid movie, augmented by the use of the phone - "How do you know my name? I didn't tell you my name."

- 07/10/01 This film is unique because it has been made three times! Check out the other versions, they are equally good. |

- 30/01/01 Sorry! I don't like rating SU's but there's not a lot here! Must be difficult I'm sure; that's why I never rate movies! |
