Advantages: Good action
Disadvantages: Nothing
Tony Stark has a wake up call when the armoured Humvee he is travelling in is blown up and he is captured by the enemy. His company Stark Industries, made the missile he was presenting in Afghanistan when he was captured.
His enemies want him to build the missile for them to use against the US but instead of the weapon he builds a suit of iron and the first protoypr Iron Man is unleashed. He escapes and once home concentrates on improving the suit to become a real life hero!
There always seems to be a new super hero movie in the making or in the cinema but this one really grabbed my interest. I never read Marvel comics when I was a kid so didn't know about Iron Man and what he stood for, or how he operated. I went into the film wide eyed and innocent.
I came out having watched a very enjoyable film, with great acting and some really good action scenes that all the family enjoyed. Robert Downey Jr seems to have overcome his "down" period and come out fighting with this film. He is absolutely great and has the right balance of eccentricity and compassion to make him a very likeable character as well as a worthy adversary.
The fight scenes were well constructed and even though impossible, seemed totally believable for the duration of the film. It made me laugh and wince and become involved in the characters lives.
Gwyneth Paltrow was also great as Pepper Potts and she really shines during her scenes with Robert Downey Jr. The chemistry she gave off around him was totally believable.
This was an enjoyable action super hero movie and one I have watched since with the kids. I hope Iron Man 2 lives up to this one.
Summary: RECOMMENDED xx
