Premium Review James Bond - The Living Daylights (Ultimate Edition, 2 DVDs): Best Bond since the sixties (815 words)

After 57 year-old Roger Moore finally bowed out for good after 1985's A View To a Kill the producers of the world's most enduring franchise had not only to find a new James Bond but also freshen up their slightly tired series. 33 year-old Pierce Brosnan was eventually hired and after Michael G Wilson's proposed origin idea was rejected by Albert R Broccoli, a taut more grounded film was planned with Fleming's short story giving the film both its title and opening sequences. At the last minute Brosnan's Bond dream was curtailed by a television contract and a last minute Bond was needed. Broccoli turned to British stage actor Timothy Dalton. Dalton had spoken to Broccoli ...  Read the complete review

After Roger Moore had left the James Bond series in 1985, the search was on to find the next 007. British actor Timothy Dalton was first choice to appear in 1987's The Living Daylights, but turned down the role due to filming commitments. The producer's then turned to long time admired Pierce Brosnan. Everything was set for Brosnan to be revealed as the new Bond until the producers of his US TV show "Remington Steele" invoked a contract clause that lead to Bond producer Cubby Broccoli withdrawing his offer to Brosnan. After much more persuading and being convinced of filming schedules, Timothy Dalton signed up to appear in the 15th James Bond episode, The ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review James Bond - The Living Daylights (Ultimate Edition, 2 DVDs): New Bond, New Attitude! (1494 words)
by - written on 18/07/09 (Very useful, 161 readings)
Rating:

With Roger Moore resigning the part and not returning as 007, the producers had to find their leading man and find him very quickly indeed. The scripts had been written and the locations had been secured to start filming. Step in Shakespearian actor Timothy Dalton. Dalton was a man who had been approached by the producers a number of years earlier as a replacement for Sean Connery; however it was now his time to take the Tuxedo and become Bond Mark IV for the 1987 release of The Living Daylights. As soon as the gun barrel sequence begins, you realise that this is going to be different straight away; the plot revolves around an assassination attempt in ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Living Daylights - Brill Bond DVD! (1138 words)

Rating:

Oooh, here we have a new Bond to replace Moore's departure after 'A View With A Kill', and a bloody tough, mean son of a gun he is too. 'The Living Daylights' marked a new Bond, and a new style of Bond films, returning to the old Connery rugged machismo style, and Timothy Dalton is like a breath of fresh air after Moore's geriatric last performance, relying on jokes because he was too old to do any stunts. 'The Living Daylights' is the 16th remastered Bond DVD to be released (though it is the 15th Bond film to be made, as TWINE was released first with Doctor No), and a personal favourite of mine. Not least becuase Dalton is an ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review James Bond - The Living Daylights (Ultimate Edition, 2 DVDs): A change in Bond......... (554 words)
by - written on 17/05/08 (Very useful, 57 readings)
Rating:

The 15th Bond film to be made saw a change in the lead role, with Roger Moore hanging up his boots as the smooth MI6 agent James Bond, and Timothy Dalton taking up the role, for what was to be the first of only two outings for him as Bond. The Plot Bond is sent to ensure the safe passage of Koskov, a KGB defector from Austria to England, where he realises that Russian KGB General Pushkin has reinstated the Russian policy of 'smert' spionam', meaning 'death to all spies'. He is forced to team up with Russian agent Kara Milovy to combat Pushkin, but all is not as it seems with Koskov's defection, and his business dealings with arms dealer General ...  Read the complete review
