The year is 1967, Beatlemania was at its peak, and the latest Bond film, You Only Live Twice had its world premiere at the Odeon Leicester Square on 12th June 1967. The title is taken from Ian Fleming's twelfth novel In the novel Bond goes after Blofeld to get revenge for the death of his wife Tracy at the end of the previous book, On Her Majesty's Secret Service. The Director Lewis Gilbert had a budget of just $9.5 million dollars to make the film and to ensure that Sean Connery once again returned to the role of James Bond for the fifth time. The film starts with the famous gun barrel sequence, this is hastily followed with Bond being 'murdered' in bed of ... Read the complete review

You Only Live Twice is the fifth film in the James Bond series and was released in 1967. It was the first film in the series to be based on an original screenplay rather than a Fleming novel and was written by popular children's author Roald Dahl. Fleming's story of an amnesiac Bond stalking Blofeld in a strange Japanese castle was discarded in favour of an outlandish script which sees the United States and Soviet Union played off agaisnt each other by SPECTRE in an attempt to start World War III. SPECTRE is hijacking spacecraft in orbit and hoping that the two powers will blame each other. James Bond (Sean Connery) is sent to investigate by the British government and ... This was supposdly Sean connery's final James Bond film. We were later to find out that this was not to be. It was a very memorable film, and one which was remembered for a certain gadjet- the Little Nellie. American and Soviet space craft's are mysteriously dissapearing and the two nations are blaming each other. M is aware that if this continue, we could be faced by a nuclear war. James Bond is assigned to find out were these ships are going and prevent the world from being destroyed. Bond goes to Tokyo and teams up with the Japanese secret service. Bond learns the SPECTRE group may be behind the attacks. Bond- for the first, and only time, ... Read the complete review

For me, the trouble with Bond films is that while most of them are fun, from 'Thunderball' on, they're completely soulless. This one in particular is a merciless and efficient piece of Blockbuster cinema whose plot is perfunctory, performances (aside from Connery and an outrageously camp Donald Pleasance) are wooden, and action highlights predictably spectacular. What is 'You Only Live Twice' about? I'll bet you don't have a clue no matter how many times you've seen it. The memorable aspects are Ken Adam's magnificent sets of Blofeld's subterrannean lair inside a volcano, and the superb gyrocopter sequences, where Bond ... Read the complete review

You Only Live Twice was Connery's 5th outing before leaving then coming back again in Diamonds are Forever.YOLT was Connery's 4th best film,it beats Dr.No,Never Say Never Again, and Diamonds are Forever. It comes close to beating Thunderball but can't hold a candle to From Russia with Love or Goldfinger, which was Connery's best. This movie lacks two things:good special effects and a good plot. That's all for the criticisms. The good things were the setting in the Orient, the Bond girls,a great title song by Nancy Sinatra,(second to Nobody Does it Better from The Spy who Loved Me), Donald Pleasance as Ernst Stavro Blofeld,(he is slightly better than Gray in ...
