Premium Review Jason & The Argonauts (DVD): Time for riddles and mysteries? (1186 words)

Rating:

But do the cleaned up new print and assortment of extras really make it worth splashing out nearly twenty quid on a film most people have already seen? THE FILM Jason and the Argonauts tells a rather modified version of the classic legend of Jason and the Golden Fleece. Jason is the son of Aristo, King of Thessaly. beeing a big ray harryhausen freak, i needed the new version, to compare the original one with this hallmark version. In the beginning i was very dissapointed, because nowhere in the movie i saw any sign, to show me, they saw the original feature. I kinda hoped they used the harryhausen creations, as a refference, but they didn't. The story is basicly the same (ofcourse), but all the creatures are newly designed and CGI. It is a good movie and everytime i watch this new version i like the creatures more and more. And after 4 viewings i now am able to completely seperate this new version from the old. They are just to different to be compared. But ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

This is not the Ray Harryhausen classic - but a new version produced by the Hallmark Entertainment Network (10th Kingdom, Merlin, Guilliver’s Travels, Arabian Nights etc). It follows the voyage of Jason and the crew of the Argo on their quest for the Golden Fleece and all the trials and tribulations that they suffer. It follows the legend of Jason pretty closely and in some ways is a more accurate representation than the previous film. The acting is excellent and the actors have been well cast, the special effects are also something special (as I have come to expect from this production company), and include a Giant Poseidon, the clashing rocks, the ...  Read the complete review
