Advantages: good for a laugh, makes every other film seem like lawrence of arabia

Disadvantages: terrible plot, terrible acting, just plain terrible

O.K how do i start this review? do i start by telling you that this is possibly the worst film of the year (so far). Or do it tell you its the most fun since.......sliced bread. Well quite frankly it's both.

Anyone who has cable or digital will know that there are a hell of a lot of crap films that are really cheap and nasty and have the same production values of prisoner cell block H. well if you like those films this could be right up your street. The tenth installment of the friday the 13th series is a film we all should see.

Friday the 13th was released in 1980 and told the story of Jason Vorhees a young boy who drowned at summer camp at crystal lake 11 years earlier. When the camp begins to reopen a mysterious killer goes on the rampage. This killer *SPOILER* was jasons mother trying to stop the camp reopen. It wasn't until the sequel released in 1981 that jason made an appearance and in 1982 in the third installment (originally filmed in 3d) he put his famous hockey mask on. What followed was a slew of sequels, each getting progressively worse and ridiculous until 'Jason Goes To Hell' was released in 1993. This film ended with jason being dragged into hell by freddy krueger (told you it was ridiculous).

Anyway enough waffling and onto JASON X. Taking place in the future we first see Jason (played by Kane Hodder since 1988) chained up and being researched (stupid mistake #1). Inevitably he escapes and kills everyone except for one woman, there is an accident and they are both cryogenically frozen. Hundreds of years later and earth is inhabitable, a group of marines and colonists land on earth and find the two bodies. Taking them up to their ship and defrosting them (stupid mistake #2) unleashing the evil jason on the ships inhabitants.

So thats the story and is basically the setup for this ridiculous film. Jason goes on the rampage and starts killing everyone in increasingly imaginitive ways. This is a real go
re fest in the same style as the previous films but adding sci fi elements (there is a spock type woman who turns into a robot type thing). The ending is suitably stupid with jason transforming into 'UBER JASON' (you can stop laughing now) and a ridiculous jet pack space fight (OY stop laughing).

Suffice to say this is not the best film, in fact quite the opposite, but it is a bit different from the rest of the series because the director (james isaac- worked on return of the jedi,gremlins and the fly as creature technician so he knows his special effects) has been given a decent sized budget to go wild with. This means that althought he story is bad it still looks pretty good.

Now maybe its because i was severely inebriated (among other things) but i was in stitches whilst watching this. I was also very confused as the 'plot'(start laughing now) skips around. For example, jason kills the ships pilot but then is at the other end of the very long spaceship seconds later plus the final bit is laughable to say the least. All i can say is that jason ends up where he started.

I watched this film on vcd about two weeks ago (a bit naughty i know) but i don't know when (or if) it will be out at the cinemas over here. But if it is then i would recommend at least renting it on video along with something else. This will make the other film seem brilliant in comparison. So how do i rate? the film was terrible but i did enjoy it and would probably watch it again (couple of cans of special brew required) so i would recommend it to anyone who can sit and not take a film too seriously. Trust me you will appreciate every film you see after this.
