Advantages: good gory film

Disadvantages: may be getting a bit tired of Jason if you have seen the other 9

Why these adverts are calling this film Jason X is beyond me, I always thought X was 10 in Roman Numerals so why change the wording of it for the advert, Jason Ten would work just fine??

Anyway, so he’s back again. I have not seen the other nine Jason (Friday the 13th) films so I am watching this with a complete fresh view.

***spoiler warning – don’t read this if you don’t want to know what happens in the film!!!***

At the beginning of the film Jason has been caught and they are about to freeze him in cryo stasis until they can work out how to kill him. He gets loose and the woman who is in charge of the cryo stasis manages to trap him in the chamber and freeze him but not before he stabs her through the chamber wall causing a leak which also freezes the woman (Rowan). 450 years later a school class is on a trip and finds the woman and Jason frozen. They think that Jason is dead but once they are back to their ship they manage to thaw out Rowan who tells them that Jason can’t be killed. They find him missing and the doctor who was investigating him with no face (obviously dead). They then send out a team of people to kill him, who obviously all end up dead too. Kay-Em 14 (the female robot) manages to do a very good job of blowing him to pieces and they think he’s dead (eventually). He regenerates again but this time in much better armour and even more deadly. Another ship comes to rescue them after answering their distress call and two of them manage to get onto the ship (plus Kay-Em 14’s head) before their ship blows up with Jason inside. Jason falls to earth and lands in a family wet place!!

So it sounds like a good story line and it is. It kept my interest all the way through and even without seeing any other Friday 13th films I knew what was happening.

The film is very gory, if you don’t like blood and guts it’s not really one to watch. Apart from the
gory bits though there is quite a bit of humour in the film, not cheesy or out of place, just some funny parts that every film should have.

Because the film is set in the future all of the sets are mostly on spaceships. It looks very ‘Alien’, perhaps they borrow some of their old sets!! The special effects are very good in Jason X, all deaths look very real.

This is being advertised as being in cinemas now, as per usual we are very far behind here in the UK, next month it’s out on DVD in America. I would recommend it as a good cinema film though, especially if you like horrors.

The concept of the film is obviously working well or they wouldn’t have found the budget to make a tenth one, will it last to eleven though? After seeing this one I am quite interested in seeing the other nine but after a few I may start getting bored.

Great op, but giving away the ending might not be such a good idea. Some people (myself included) just can't resist reading spoilers - and regret it afterwards! ;-)
