Premium Review Jaws 25th Anniversary (DVD): all teeth and no bite (712 words)

I'm kind of amazed at how a lot of people seem to rate this dvd quite highly. I've been into dvd for over two years now and I've seen the format grow and grow. We are now gettign to a point where it's taking over VHS and films are getting great treatments. Jaws is one of the most well known films over the globe. Whenever it's on TV you are inclined to watch it as it's that damn good. You always know when Bruce the shark is going to pop out of the water and when the head will roll out of the boat but you still jump. Also the death of Quint is always a nasty experience. It's a classic piece of suspence and has great characters and ...  Read the complete review

Just when you thought it was safe to assume that Steven Spielberg was going to keep Jaws as another of his films that never make it to DVD…it arrives and is just as good as we can all remember it. Jaws was originally released in the summer of 1975 and quickly became one of the biggest-grossing films of all time. It’s a story of control, the lack of it, and the small matter of a 25-foot shark that, when ‘Hunger Strikes’, lays claim to the beaches of Amity island. The first thing that strikes you about the DVD, particularly if you’ve got full surround sound speakers, is that the Oscar-winning score has been fully restored. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Jaws 25th Anniversary (DVD): You'll Need A Bigger DVD Player! (892 words)

In 1964, Peter Benchley wrote a book about a killer shark. He got the idea after a huge Great White shark was caught just off the shores of Long Island. When Steven Speilberg read the book in 1973, he commissioned Benchley to write the screen play for the movie. Along with another writer and actor, Carl Gottlieb, they came up with script for 'Jaws'. Many of you saw this on the big screen, way back in 1975, and many have seen it on numerous occasions since, on video and TV. It has become 'cult viewing'. Now it's back! With more bite than before, on DVD. The star of the film is a huge, 25ft long, Great White Shark, that prowls ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review JAWS Still Has Bite! (731 words)

Back in 1975 the effect was staggering,a young woman goes for a Moonlit dip in the ocean,as she performs some strange ballet on the surface an unseen creature lurks in the murky depths..... The camera acts as the eyes of this unseen monster,it comes closer, closer, the girl's body a mere touch away..... A screams fills the air, this girl is pulled this way and that in a futile struggle for survival, then she is gone, pulled beneath the waves..... All is peacefull, save the waves, slowly lapping on the shoreline... "JAWS" took two years to make,it may have been shorter but for the productions difficult star, the title shark. ...  Read the complete review

It doesn’t seem possible that I first saw this film over 25 years ago at the local cinema in Sandown (no longer there – the cinema that is, not SandownJ), I can remember it as if it was yesterday, myself and a mate having to be escorted to the cinema by my mother one teatime before she went to work, so she could tell the lady on the desk it was alright for us to see it (at the time you had to be accompanied by an adult to see it!), as we were only 11, and I can clearly remember the haunting intro tune and the shock of the head appearing…and it still makes me jump today. When I heard it was being released on DVD I knew I just had to get it, I already ...  Read the complete review
