Plot: A great white shark gets into Seaworld and starts eating people. The film focusses on the staff's attempts to remove/exterminate the shark. A truly terrible film, with little to nothing to redeem it. The second sequel of the Jaws franchise continues the downward slide started by Jaws II. Only worth buying if you're a massive Jaws fan, but even the most hardened afficionado will admit that this is a weak film that trades purely on the name. As a stand alone film this would have been a complete disaster and would have sunk without trace. First off the actors. None of the original cast have been retained, and the link to the previous ... I wasn't even going to bother reviewing this one. I watched it recently purely as an exercise in completion, having already watched 1, 2 and preparing myself for a revisit to The Revenge. The first thing to say about Jaws 3 is that it is no longer presented in awful 3-D. Hollywood had a thing about that in the 80's, tagging the (mostly) useless effect to at least one sequel in every rubbish series. It seemed to be a gimmick that proudly announced "This film is barely worth the 90 minutes you will pay to sit through, so here's something to at least make it worthy of your entry fee". Without the effects, this film is merely an exercise in how to reduce a ... Read the complete review

It was with some trepidation that I sat down to watch Jaws 3. This is mainly down to the excellence of 'Jaws' and the relative quality of 'Jaws 2', how could 'Jaws 3' be any good. In truth, its not. But it does have a certain naïve quality about it that is hard to put your finger on. Anyway, what's it about? Jaws 3 shifts its central focus from Amity Island to Florida and more importantly Seaworld. Working as Seaworld's construction engineer is none other than Michael Brody (Dennis Quaid), inexplicably older than he was the second film. Seaworld is preparing to launch its new Undersea Kingdom where people can view marine life in a series of tunnels below the ... Read the complete review

After Jeannot Szwarc’s Jaws 2 managed to do decent business, it had to be expected that Universal would try to further capitalise upon the Jaws name and create a franchise…after all, we were now into the 1980s, and the Halloween and Friday the 13th movies and their sequels had created a ‘cash-in-culture’ with regards to horror movies. Sporting the name of one of cinema’s most cherished and successful horror movies couldn’t do a film any harm, and before long, we had the abomination that is Jaws 3 on our hands. However, the film wasn’t always destined to be the kinda crappy, forgettable sequel it is, it was originally scheduled to be a parody of the first two ... Read the complete review

Film only review Some of you may not realise this but there are changes happening to cinemas in the US and UK. With increased prices and people’s better home setups a trip to the cinema is no longer as inviting. How can they draw you back? 3D! 3D is becoming more popular with recent CGI cartoons in the format and luminary as prestigious as James Cameron producing new 3D films. However, will this succeed? The past suggest perhaps not because 3D did try to infiltrate the cinema in the late 70s and early 80s. Who could forget ‘Emmanuelle 3D’? (Why on Earth would you want that looming toward you I am not sure?) Another franchise that jumped on the ... Read the complete review
