This timeless classic from Steven Spielberg has a simple plotline that capyivated millions of audiences and spawned sequels. It made stars of its cast as well. The Plot Coastal Amity is a lovely tourist destination until a swimmer is attacked by a shark. Fear strikes everyone as three men attempt to fins the shark and kill it - but the shark proves that it is just as clever as the men, if not more so. The Cast and Performances Spielberg's direction makes the jobs of the actors easier here by providing wonderful scenery and marvellous suspense, but the performances are still of a very high standard. Roy Scheider plays Police ... Read the complete review

(film only review) What’s it about? --------------------- A rogue shark terrorises the waters off the peaceful island of Amity. Can it be stopped or will it destroy the tourist trade on which the island is so dependent? Who’s in it? --------------- The cast is headed up by the excellent Roy Scheider as the new Chief of Police, Brody. Terrified of the water, Brody is faced with his worst nightmare. Scheider does a superb job as the honourable, yet vulnerable Brody, portraying just the right amount of fear, integrity and black humour needed for the role. Over 30 years later, it arguably remains Scheider’s best role. Also ... Read the complete review

Steven Spielberg is a man I have come to hate. He makes cheesy sentimental films that are visually stunning but the narratives are usually handled badly. A good example is "Saving Private Ryan", Spielberg creates a horrifying, shocking and very sad opening battle sequence which denounces war and the effect it has on human beings. The film then turns into a boy's own adventure that ends with a cheesy and almost offence "Earn it" speech at the end. Spielberg makes entertaining films that are a lot better than most Hollywood crap but even "Schindler's List" seems hap-hazard and cheesy. Spielberg's answer for German ... Read the complete review

Armed with a killer soundtrack and a fearsome predator, it would have been hard for this classic nailbiter to fail. Originally created by author Peter Benchley, the book that this film was based upon was published in 1974 and managed to sustain a steady run on the bestsellers list over the next couple of years. Soon after the release of the book, Universal bought the rights and quickly created this film, which has spawned 3 sequels to date. After a late night party by the beach, a girl is reported missing. Amity Island's new chief of police Brody is called into investigate and is shocked to find her mutilated body washed up on the beach. The ME reveals ... Read the complete review

Jaws was one of the first summer blockbusters, as well as being one of the first films directed by newcomer Steven Spielberg. On the face of it, it is a very simple tale - man versus monster, a theme that has played out many times before and since. But Jaws is different and if you haven't seen it before - now is the time to go get it! So I decided to watch the series of films again. Jaws is one of my top ten favourite films, and it gets better with repeated viewings. The other films, less so - but we'll get to those later. The film starts slowly, introducing us to the townsfolk and main players involved, and as the film goes on, the shark is revealed - and ... Read the complete review
