Advantages: Music, Direction, For the time, excellent special fx

Disadvantages: None that i can think of

Jaws started its life as a very readable book by Peter Benchley. The film is almost identical to the book apart from one minor story line that was left out of the film, the affair between Richard Dreyfuss’ character and Mrs Brody!

This film was only Spielburg’s second go at a box office hit, and he really made it with this one. Jaws has gone down in movie history as one of those films that everyone has seen and loved.

The story, as most of you will no doubt know already, centres around a sleepy seaside town in America which relies heavily on the tourist industry for income. Just before the start of their busiest weekend, a young girl is attacked by a shark. The towns Mayor tells the new police Chief, Chief Brody to tell everyone that it was just a boating accident, but Brody fights to have the beach closed until the death has been fully investigated. After a couple more attacks, the town’s people start to panic and so Chief Brody, a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a fisherman named Quint go out on a boat to try and kill the shark. Cue plenty of the most memorable quotes in movie history like “I think we’re gonna need a bigger boat.” and “I'll bring you the head, the tail, the whole God damned fish.”

Apart from being one of the best films I’ve ever seen, it also has one of the best and most memorable pieces of movie music ever, one that almost everyone knows.

This film is an all-round great, if you haven’t seen this film yet, what are you still doing in front of your computer screen, you should be on your way to the video shop by now!!!
