Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (DVD) ... 09 September, 2002 at Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainm / Features of the DVD: PAL / With sidesplitting dialogue and rampant profanity, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back reunites Kevin Smith's dynamic duo in supreme lowbrow style. It's the fifth comedy in Smith's celebrated New Jersey "trilogy". Here Quick-Stop potheads Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith) wreak vengeance on Hollywood, where Miramax is making a "Bluntman & Chronic" feature inspired by J and SB, but without their permission. En route from Jersey to La La Land, Jay and his "hetero lifemate" encounter sexy jewel thieves (including the delightful Shannon Elizabeth), a precocious orang-utan, a dimwit wildlife marshal (Will Ferrell), and a non-stop parade of in-jokes, harmless (yet controversial) gay jokes, and splendid celebrity cameos. While gently biting the Miramax hand that feeds him, and paying affectionate homage to the Star Wars saga, Smith sheds all inhibitions to give Jay and Silent Bob a stellar send off that's nasty, sassy and undeniably hilarious. --Jeff Shannon

... find out from Holden McNeal (Ben Affleck) that since a Bluntman and Chronic film is being made (characters who they were the likeness for), they are owed a royalties payment by Banky Edwards (Jason Lee), who has of course optioned the property to Hollywood. Thus kickstarts an insane road trip film as they travel from New Jersey to Hollywood, meeting a hairy nun (Carrie Fisher), a hitchhiker with a very strange sensibility (George Carlin), and a group of jewel thieves who plan to use the duo as decoys for their big dia...more

Premium Review Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (DVD): The Funniest Movie Ever (1798 words)

During the days when I was back at College we used to get free periods are what others probably now know as slacking off time. Anyway it was one of these free periods that me and several of my friends decided we may as well go to the cinema and catch a movie. At the time if I recall correctly there was not too much to choose from. I think Lake Placid and Hannibal were both showing and I will admit I opted for Lake Placid. Jay and Silent Bob got the casting votes however and to be fair I didn't even know what or who Jay and Silent Bob was but that got the vote so I had to suck it up. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was released in November 2001 and hit ...  Read the complete review

In the wonderful world of movies there is such a thing as a ‘vanity project’. These are films that are only made to satisfy a director or star who is more often than not bidding for Oscar glory. ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’ is such a project created by writer/director/ God (no, hang on, that’s Alanis Morrisette!) Kevin Smith. It’s not a normal vanity project though-it’s made purely for his fans rather than himself. It provides no other use than to say goodbye to the previous four films and Smith’s ‘View Askewniverse’ and the perfect symbols for all of that are Jay and Silent Bob the druggie ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (DVD): A Jay and Silent Bob movie, who'd pay to see that? (764 words)

Ever sat there after watching Mallrats and wonder who the hell Suzanne was. Well here's you're answer, or for people who aren't big Kevin Smith fans, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. The film starts off on the same day as Clerks Kevin Smith's debut, ultra low budget, black and white flick. Jay and Silent Bob are hanging outside the store selling pot to young kids when Randall (Jeff Anderson, the video store clerk from clerks) moans at them. To get revenge Jay tells the kids that Randall and Dante (Brian O'Halloran from Clerks) are married. This is the final straw for Randall and he gets a restraining order on them. Homeless Jay and Silent Bob go to ...  Read the complete review

Those who are aware of other View Askew productions will know who Jay & Silent Bob are, those who have not been fortunate enough to see any of Kevin Smith's other fantastic movies (a) should wonder what they have been doing while life is passing them by and (b) will not get half of the jokes in this movie and should first go out and buy/rent/steal copies of Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma and watch those first. Jay & Silent Bob: Couple of sex obsessed stoners who hand outside QuickStop selling pot to kids. Jay does all the talking (and as they say in Dogma "and he will talk") and Silent Bob usually just nods and gestures - although when ...  Read the complete review

If you're a mile mannered movie watcher then you'll probably have no idea what I'm talking about when I mention the phrases "Snootchie Bootchies" and "Snoogans". However for the past few years no one has done more for the pot smoking community than Kevin Smith, purely because he has given them a pair of role models who champion the cause on the cinematic screen. Jay and Silent Bob are two weed peddlars who were first seen spending their days outside the New Jersey quickstop store in a film called Clerks. The film was a low budget affair that went on to some cult status and success. Since then they have appeared in every one of ...  Read the complete review
