Ever sat there after watching Mallrats and wonder who the hell Suzanne was. Well here's you're answer, or for people who aren't big Kevin Smith fans, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. The film starts off on the same day as Clerks Kevin Smith's debut, ultra low budget, black and white flick. Jay and Silent Bob are hanging outside the store selling pot to young kids when Randall (Jeff Anderson, the video store clerk from clerks) moans at them. To get revenge Jay tells the kids that Randall and Dante (Brian O'Halloran from Clerks) are married. This is the final straw for Randall and he gets a restraining order on them. Homeless Jay and Silent Bob go to visit their old friend Brodie (Jason Lee, from Mallrats) in his comic book store. He tells them that a movie of Bluntman and Chronic, the comic created in Chasing Amy based on Jay and Silent Bob is being made and they should get moeny because of it.

The two angry stoners go to see Holden (Ben Affleck, from Chasing Amy) one of the creators of the comic to get some money. He tells them it is no longer in his hands because he sold his half to Banky (Jason Lee again, from Chasing Amy). He also introduces them to the internet and shows them how everyone is slagging of the comic and the characters in it. Jay is really angry at this and him and Silent Bob decide to go to Hollywood to stop the movie gettin made so people start bad mouthing them on the net. On the way they meet Justice(Shannon Elizabeth) and her three friends who plan to set Jay and Bob up to steal a monkey to take the heat off their back whilst they steal some diamonds. Now Jay and Silent Bob have to avoid the police and stop the movie from getting made before it's too late.

Jay and Silent Bob is the closing chapter of the View Askew New Jersey films, the others being Clerks, MallRats, Chasing Amy and Dogma. These films all feature the gruesome twosome but they are sideline characters, except in Dogma when they have a muc
h bigger part. The filmsas well as Jay and Silent Bob have developed a large following and this film is really made for all those die hard Kevin Smith fans out there because it is really indulging their passion for Jay and Silent Bob.

This film is very funny, most of the humour coming from Jay because he is such a bonehead and also can say some pretty offensive, but hilarious things, for example when they find out that they are being slagged off on the net he writes an email saying, "All you motherfuckers are gonna pay, You are the ones who are the ball-lickers. We're gonna fuck your mothers while you watch and cry like little bitches". Towards the end there are also a lot of laughs on the fact that Smith attacks Hollywood. He deals with things like only being recognised for a single role, (Jason Biggs gets upset when being recognised as the pie fucker), squeezing money out of dead franchises in the shape of Good Will Hunting 2:Hunting Season or even only castign the flavour of the month actors.

The acting in this film is good and Jason Mewes, who plays Jay can sometimes give dodgy performances but was excellent here. Kevin Smith also does a good job with Bob's facial expressions. There are also thousands of cameo's from actors and actressses who graced the scenes in Smith's other films and also cameo's from past characters, but all the performances are still good.

Smith does a great job at directing, many have considered him a better writer than director but I think he proves he can do both here and uses some less conventional camera shots. The story is also good and is a perfect vehicle for Jay and Silent Bob. People who have never seen a Kevin Smith will loose a lot of jokes because of the heavy references to Clerks (I'm not even suppossed to be here today), Mallrats (would you like a chocolate covered pretzil) and Chasing Amy. Dogma is only referenced a couple of times and after the credits so beware.
However they will probably find it funny because it is a good stand alone film as well as a fitting addition to the Askewniverse.

This film is fantastic and one of the funniest things ever. It was the first time I had ever seen Jay and Bob but am going to watch all the Kevin Smith movies eventually.
