I have been a fan of Jimmy Carr's for a while although more his stand up stuff rather than his television presenting which as you can imagine is watered down. I first saw him presenting your face or mine which was over ten years ago. As with many stand ups he takes the one routine around the country and as is the case here he has chosen Glasgow to be the venue used to the DVD and I feel this has been an inspired choice. All his previous DVD releases had been done in London so it was a bit of a change.
So what separates Jimmy Carr from other stand ups and not just the greats like Kat Williams and Rusell Peters? Well the main difference is the style of comedy, with most other people telling stories whilst what I like about Jimmy Carr is that he doesn't do that. He mainly just says random one liners that have no relation to the next joke and this work well mainly due to his witty deliver. On the topic of his wit what is most important is when he deals with the hecklers. For those that don't know what hecklers are basically they are people from the audience that just shout random insults directed at Jimmy Carr. Carr has great confidence in putting them down quickly with excellent insults and he knows how good he is and has clearly prepared with a lot of material. He even contributes a good five minutes of question and answer on this DVD where the audience can shout anything at like 'do you have a tiny d*ck' and questions like that and they always get put down. There was also a funny conversation with a man who fell asleep in the audience.
The differences here with his other stand up is simple a couple of changes to the structure of the shows and in particular a section where you look in to his brain. He has images of what he thinks all the time and just runs through them adding joke and it is quite amusing and makes a change from the normal type of stand-up. Overall it is a very decent show and I did enjoy it and hopefully can get the opportunity soon to see him live.
Summary: A decent stand up
