I never had the chance to see this film when it was first released in cinemas and have had to wait until now to see it on terrestrial TV. To be honest I am glad that I did because it would have been a complete waste of money. So what is this film about? Johnny Mnemonic - Starring Keanu Reeves - with a memory chip inside of his skull. This film made me stop and think about the growing trend of technology towards bio tech integration. It's already happening just look at the medical advances in the news. Anyway, I found this film to be very entertaining and I felt sorry for the character having to give up his childhood memories in order to have the memory storage chip installed. The plot was also good as there was a strong desperation story line in there. Man's ability to overcome the odds, and win in the nick of time. Yes it could be better, with a better scripter. The director would have had a better starting point keanu reeves would have beenn able to act a little better, and so on. The plots not bad, johnny is a courier who stores info in his head via wetware. He takes a job but is over loaded and it starts affecting his mind and body and will kill him if it isn't removed in 24 hours. There is more to it but I will leave it to you to watch it. Keanu reeves puts in a weak performance but an actor is only as good as his script(sort of) the rest of the cast are on equal footing so Rollins isn't soo awful. I've seen this film hundreds of times because my brother had to study it. All in all I would rate this film as OK. It stars Keanu reeves being his usual woodern self as a Neumonic courrier. Which the the method of information propagation in the future that is though to be the most safe. Johnny overloads his memoy banks with information which is encripted so that he cant get it out. Hoever if he doesnt get it out of his head within 24 hours then he will die. To complicate matters his employers are killed, taking with them the encription codes.
