... Centre Of The Earth has had yet another remake. Unfortunately, as is usually the case it adds little to the original and takes alot away. Cue corny one liners, cue irritating bolshy kid, cue overblown special effects to try to mask the fact that the actors can't act. This film is not very good. Where the original was charming and entertaining, had a great star in James Mason and a brilliant score by Bernard Hermann, the remake lacks charm nor thrills, Brenden Fraser as the lead is wooden and bland and the musical score is...more

Crowned Review Journey To The Centre Of The Earth 3D (DVD): Journey To The Depths Of Family Entertainment (1188 words)

Rating:

When his nephew, Sean, comes to stay for a while Professor Trevor Anderson finds himself with the unfamiliar responsibility of keeping a teenager amused. Whilst going through a box of the boy's father's possessions, the pair discovers a copy of the Jules Verne novel, Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Notes and annotations in the book bring back painful memories of Trevor's brother, Max (also Sean's father) who disappeared several years earlier on a quest to prove that there really was an independent habitat beneath the planet's crust. Only Trevor ever really believed in his work and has spent his time ever since trying to discover what happened to Max. A computer ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Imagine a world within a world! (1605 words)

I watched this film a few times now, both in 3D and normal, but bear in mind I've actually not done many DVD reviews as I'm really not confident in them! I'm trying it here as I think it makes more sense and anyway I think it's the only way you can review it, but I'll keep it simple. This film is very different to the 1950's film Journey to the Center of the Earth, even though it clearly has been based on that. I have also seen the older film and just feel that it is best not to compare the two as they are both good in fundamentally different ways. It's nice to be able to say that this film is worth seeing in its own right. Story Professor Trevor ...  Read the complete review

I had seen the trailer for this film when it was released at the cinema and thought that it looked quite good but never got around to seeing it, finally a few nights ago both me and hubby managed to sit and watch it. Brendan Fraser plays the role of Trevor Anderson who is a volcanologist. He gets a visit from his nephew who has come to stay for a few days whilst his Mom moves house. Sean, the nephew is not happy about staying with his uncle as he thinks it is going to be boring but things take a turn for the better when Trevor is given a box of things which belonged to his brother and he makes a startling discovery. This discovery leads Trevor and Sean to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Contains no new ideas (393 words)

Rating:

Take Brendan Fraser who isn't a very good actor, steal every good idea from the James Mason version of this movie, add in an annoying child (because every movie involving Dinosaurs needs an annoying child) add in a rather sassy female Icelandic Mountain Guide and when you throw 3D into the equation you have this rather poor excuse for a film. For an action movie its rather dull and uncompelling, if its a kids movie there aren't enough dinosaurs (but the annoying emo teen nephew does solve the Vernian puzzle in the book) & its rather predictable (especially if you've either read the book or seen the James Mason version) so it offers no surprises or scares ...  Read the complete review

***Journey to the Centre of the Earth (2008)*** My son has been asking to watch this as we missed it at the cinema. I managed to get it to rent for only £2, from my local library for 1 week, which I thought was a bargain. ***Main Cast*** Brendan Fraser - Professor Trevor Anderson Josh Hutcherson - Sean Anderson Anita Briem - Hannah Ásgeirsson Jean Michel Paré - Max Anderson Jane Wheeler - Elizabeth Anderson It is 93 minutes in length. ***Plot*** The film starts off with a man being chased by a dinosaur in a red hot lava type world. It then quickly comes back to the present day and ...  Read the complete review
