While this puts a damper in Lewis's plans to get closer to Venna he doesn't let it get him down. Lewis picks Venna up at her own college and they embark on the trip that will change their lives. Fuller brings along a CB radio that the boys use to listen in on some pretty interesting conversations of truckers looking for some fun with the ladies. Premium Review Joy Ride (DVD): Movie Full of Suspense (553 words)

Rating:

Don't let this title fool you, there is nothing joyful about the ride that these three teenagers embark on. It is supposed to be all fun in games, but they had to bring along a cb radio and try and prank a truck driver who does not like to be messed with. This was a pretty scary movie and it was great because it wasn't all gory, yes there was some blood, but the gorey scenes did not take over the movie making that the only reason it was scary. This actually had suspense and thrill that kept you guessing and on the edge of your seat the entire film. The story is about three college students who are on their summer vacation. Paul Walker plays Lewis Thomas who is ...  Read the complete review

Joyride, or Roadkill as I shall be referring to it as, due to the fact that is what it's called in the UK, is not a movie I had particularly high hopes for. Not only did it look like the Frankenstein's monster of the lame modern horror movie,Duel and The Hitcher, but it starred Paul Walker, one of the leads in the absolutely insufferable The Fast and The Furious. To further dampen my enthusiasm for it, the VHS copy I'm reviewing it from cost me the total of £1. To be honest, the price was the main factor in buying it, because I figured I could probably sell it on and at least make some profit. I decided to give it a watch, because, well, it was sitting there on my shelf. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Joy Ride (DVD): How would you like being chased by a 40 ton truck!? (1452 words)

Road Kill is a movie which appealed to me when I heard about it, so I had to see it really didn’t I. I remember as a kid being entertained by a movie called ‘Duel’ which was made way back in the 70’s and was directed by Steven Spielberg. It was about a truck that wouldn’t stop chasing a bloke in his car on the highway, terrorising him. As soon as I heard about road kill and it’s closeness to duel, I knew this movie was for me and indeed it was, and it is quite a lot like duel, even though I haven’t seen duel since I was about 7! I’m sure we have all seen a trailer somewhere, whether it be on TV, in the cinema or ...  Read the complete review

Joyride is the US title of a movie just released in the UK called Road Kill. Same movie;different title. The film has gone through three name changes and finally the distributors have settled for Road Kill. The said film has been plugged at cinemas in the UK for aeons and finally reaches these shores hoping to engage fans of good old fashioned cat n' mouse thrillers involving the wide road and a truck with glaring headlights! ____________________________________________ ROAD KILL (15) Stars: STEVE ZAHN, PAUL WALKER, LEELEE SOBIESKI Director: JOHN DAHL Screenplay: CLAY TARVER and JJ ABRAMS ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Joy Ride (DVD): Keep On Truckin' (1082 words)

In the 70's a young man was given the job of creating a TV movie about a man being relentlessly pursued by a maniac truck driver. That man was Steven Spielberg who gave us "Duel" from that premise and so good was his movie, despite being produced on an incredibly low budget, that it missed its TV showing and instead made it into the movie theatres...the rest of that man's career is the stuff of cinematic legend! Since that time, the malaevolent 'big rig' scenario has been repeated numerous times and is effective every time, although yet to match Spielberg's efforts of course. Most recently I've seen it used in the excellent opening 20 ...  Read the complete review
