Advantages: It has Judge Dredd in it . . .

Disadvantages: . . . it's Dredd, but not as we know him.

This has got to be one of the worst comic-to-movie tie in's ever. A mountain of material to use for the storyline, a rich character history and what do they do . . . ? They create a load of garbage! They break the first rule of Dredd - he removes his helmet a short way into the film. Accepted that Stallone was a big actor (at the time) and he probably didn't want to work his way through the film without showing his face, but why, oh why didn't they choose a different actor for the role and portray Dredd the way he has always been?

Then, to make matters worse - they add a 'comic' character to accompany him. As irritating as Scrappy Doo, but without the same level of 'cuteness', he 'wise cracks' his way through the film and makes you wonder which imbecile was responsible for creating this rubbish!

The good news though - there are plans to make a new film by Rebellion, the current owners of 2000ad and the Judge Dredd Licence. Hopefully this time we'll get Dredd the way we've grown to love him!

Summary: A failed attempt at putting a comicbook great onto the big screen.
