Jules and Jim, two possibly gay men making their way through life, are thrown into a twenty year cycle of love and confusion when they meet Catherine and both fall in love with her. Starting just before the first world war, and concluding during the rise of fascism in the thirties, the traditionally bitter love triangle is made easier by the fact that no one really seems to care who's sleeping with who. This 1962 film sees New Wave director Truffaut moving back towards traditional film-making, while still retaining many of the New Wave's stylistic elements.
