The original Jumpin Jack Flash film is a comedy film which was released in 1986 and it came out in dvd format in 2004. This is Whoopi Goldberg's first film and shows the Manhattan born actress at her most hilarious. It was also director, Penny Marshall's feature film debut. The title of this film is taken from the Rolling tones hit, 'Jumpin Jack Flash' and the song is sung in a different key for the film. It is transposed to B flat where the original version is recorde in the key of B. Why this was done is not known. Whoopi Goldberg plays Tessa Doolittle,a computer operator at First National Bank. Whoopi Goldberg is probably best known for her Sister Act films; however this film should not be over looked! 'Jumpin Jack Flash' was directed by Penny Marshall (Her directorial debut) of ' Big' and ' Awakenings' fame. The film itself was out in 1986 and released on DVD in 2004. Plot Terri Doolittle (Whoopi Goldberg) is a bank terminal operator bored with her job who is contacted through her computer by an unknown source! The message is coded, but once she breaks it a secret agent known only as ' Jumpin Jack Flash' (Jonathan Price) needs her help to escape Russia and return home! He shortly reveals that he's a British Spy trapped in ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Jumpin' Jack Flash (DVD): Espionage Has Never Been So Much Fun (570 words)

It had been quite a while since I had seen this movie when I found it on sale in my local video store - in fact at £1.99 they were literally giving it away so I just had to buy it. I am a big fan of Whoopie Goldberg’s manic style and am rather disappointed not to have seen her doing too much just recently on the big screen, but maybe she is just taking a break. However, there are still the old movies to look back on and this is one of the better ones in my opinion. Goldberg plays computer operator Terri Doolittle, bored with her dull, monotonous life she is surprised to suddenly be contacted by a person with the name Jumping Jack Flash on her computer ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review over in a flash (125 words)
by - written on 17/08/00 (Useful, 45 readings)
Rating:

Whoopi Goldberg is hysterical in this civilian-turned-spy movie. She plays the perfect tough New Yorker...who just may be the only person who could take on the KGB and live to tell about it. Definitely NOT shy or hesitant, Terry Dolittle (Whoopi) is up for anything. She is equally at home with hitting a spy over the head with a frying pan or biting one in the nether regions. Her adventures range from being thrown in the river to fighting a paper shredder for custody of her dress. This is a fun comedy with an upbeat mood. But...I have to add that they never did answer the eternal question..."Just what the @#&*@! IS Martinizing" anyway? ...  Read the complete review

Jumping Jack Flash is a movie starring amongs other Whoopie Goldberg and James Belushi. The movie is about a computer operator, Whopie Goldberg, who is unwittingly drawn into the murky world of Espionage. Using her computer terminal she inadvertantly makes contact with 'Jack'and the mayhem ensues from there. The funniest scene in the movie HAS to be the telephone box scene, where Whoopies character is dragged along on the end of a tow truck inside a metal phone box, the classic line 'I'm a little black woman in a big silver box' just cracks me up every time. i would highly recommend if you haven't seen this classic comedy yet go ...  Read the complete review
