Advantages: Jeff Goldblum.
Disadvantages: Not as good as the book...
The 1993 Spielberg Sci-Fi thriller Jurassic Park is based on the Michael Crichton novel of the same name and is almost certain to go down in the annals of a history as a classic, an epic one at that. A film that is essential viewing for any one, not just kids but adults, nana's, Granddad's pet's and all, an impressively large scale movie it is truly breathtaking.
Although much of the violence from the novel was omitted from the screen production the all star cast make up for the pitfalls that come through, instantly recognizable by anyone who knows the book at all. Having loved the book and the film - I have to say I admire them in very different ways...
Where the book is a beautifully imaginative and intelligently written piece of literature the film has become a somewhat tongue in cheek comedy of errors that skims vaguely across the surface of a new old world. There is nothing terribly wrong with this film, it is very entertaining, especially if you are only seeing it for the first time. However The sequels alone are enough to want even the stoutest of men destroy something with anger. Frequently have I walked in on people watching, and even enjoying, the second and third installments only to find myself in a random fit of rage sometime later tearing up old envelopes from junk mail I forgot to throw out...and cursing the gods of celluloid for creating such abominations whilst perspiring viciously and coming to the realisation that this involuntary episode is only brought about by something that degrades us all as human beings.....and yes yes yes I mean The damned sequels and entire franchise after the first film!...
Rant had, I love this first film, it has flawless acting with a cast only strung together in dreams. There are some brilliant lines and terrific on stage rapour between the actors (even the annoying little grandchildren). No one could ever have enough Jeff Goldblum or Sam Neil for that matter, both are fantastic in their respective roles here.
I would recommend this film to anyone for light hearted entertainment with friends or family, be warned there is one swear word in this film although it is often cut for TV. This movie is exactly what you'd expect from Spielberg, it has his identifiable stamp all over it, in fact Jurassic Park is seen as having ground breaking CGI - So that little nugget of info in itself should spur you on to watch this film.
ROOOOOAAAARRRRRR!!!!!......(massive T-REX Style).
Summary: Well worth a watch.
