I was sitting down watching TV the other night and saw that Just Married was going to be on TV. I haven't seen that film in ages and actually do have it on DVD so I decided to watch it again. Well the film was as funny as I found it last time and it is one of the only things that I have loved Ashton Kutcher in a lot. This review will tell you why I think this silly film is worth watching for a laugh.
The story goes as follows. Sarah and Tom met, fell in love and then decided to take the plunge and get married to each other. They are happy and love each other a lot so have a nice wedding and then go on what should be a wonderful Honeymoon visiting places in Europe. What actually happens is a series of events which makes it the Honeymoon from Hell which gets them questioning if they ever should have got married at all.
This is an extremely funny concept and as a Honeymoon is supposed to be a beautiful holiday and one of the best of your life, this film shows how that can quickly go from good to bad to worse. Now the story does get your attention straight from the start with a few laughs and then it does keep it throughout. There are a few bits where the film gets a bit annoying but generally it follows a good and satisfying path so the story is not too bad at all.
There are different comedies you can watch and Just Married is a complete slapstick comedy so if you do not like this type of humour I suggest you don't even bother trying to watch this one. The laughs come thick and fast and it is a complete feel good film as you finish watching it with a smile on your face.
Characters in this film are good as you get a decent amount of character development which makes you enjoy the story that much more. You also get characters here where you can believe that they are real as it is not all slapstick and there are a few sweet moments. Sarah and Tom are utterly believable as newly weds and you actually do like them both by the end of the film.
There are not many other characters but Peter is funny as the ex boyfriend and the rest simply pale into insignificance. What I will say is that the characters are fun but don't expect too much from them as it is not the most award winning script.
Acting wise and there are not really any problems at all. Brittany Murphy I always find to be hilarious in whatever she does and she is perfect as Sarah. Ashton Kutcher is very hit and miss I think but this film suits his acting down to the ground so he is perfect in his role as he basically gets to play about. Everybody else is fine but you don't see many enough to make a comment over their acting.
The film goes on for just over 90 minutes which is about right as any longer and you would get annoyed with the film. It is a certificate 12 which is fine as there is not much bad stuff in there and you can buy it for around £5 now everywhere which is not bad at all for a funny film.
On the DVD there are a few special features but not anything that amazing. There is a commentary which is good but I got a little bit bored half way through. Then there is a making of which is funny and some deleted scenes but that is about it, no bloopers at all which is a shame.
In conclusion I think it is a funny film which is definitely worth a watch in my opinion. It is not the most amazing comedy but it is funny and if you like slapstick then you cant go much wrong at all. I will give it 3 stars as it is not the worst film but it is enjoyable rubbish really. Just don't expect too much and you will like it.
