... Skip 20 years and shes out, getting a job as a housekeeper for a disfucrional family, the wife of which is having an affair. the plot is so paper thin that I dont really think much more needs to be said for you to work out where this is going! The trouble witrh this film is that its half way between and sublte comedy and complete farce. The story does not stand up to any detailed inspection and yet it takes itself so seriously. Its also a real shane that such a calibre of actors have not been given any ...more

Crowned Review Keeping Mum (DVD): Big cast with a Little Wallop! (1121 words)
by thedevilinme - written on 12/09/08 (Very useful, 200 readings)
Rating:

What better way to celebrate yet another inclement summer in these supposed global warming years than a good old fashioned British farce! The first thing that invites a raised eyebrow here is the impressive cast, and considering the understated nature of this piece that is very TV and Miss Marple, the appearance of extremely talented anglophile actress Kristen Scott Thomas is a big surprise. I really didn't expect to see her knew deep in good old English cow poo! But there are further treats in this relatively innocuous movie as Dame Maggie Smith turns up, that very famous English grandee of cinema and theater that nobody under 40 really knows what she has been in and is ...

Synopsis ====== Gloria (Kristin Scott Thomas) is in the prime of life, and a wife and mother of two. Her husband is gentle-natured Reverend Walter Goodfellow (Rowan Atkinson), and they have a pretty teenager daughter, Holly (Tamsin Egerton), and a thoughtful young son, Petey (Toby Parkes). They live in a charming vicarage, the "perfect home for a perfect family", in the sleepy hamlet of Little Wallop, which is set in picturesque English countryside. Life should be idyllic, but all is not as it seems This is not the "perfect home" because the incessant early-morning barking of the neighbour's dog is turning Gloria into a ...

Premium Review Keeping Mum (DVD): An entertaining and enjoyable comedy! (714 words)
by kingfisher111 - written on 14/01/07 (Very useful, 158 readings)
Rating:

'Keeping Mum' tells the story of the Reverand Walter Goodbody, played by Rowan Atkinson, his wife Gloria (Kristin Scott Thomas) and their family, and the strange goings on that occur in their parish of Little Wallop after they take on their new housekeeper, Grace, played admirably by Maggie Smith. The film starts with a flashback to a train journey in 1963 where we see a young pregnant woman travelling alone. There is something very peculiar about her luggage, which is spotted by the guard, causing her journey to come to an abrupt end! I shall say no more about this at this stage, as the relevance is only discovered towards the end of the ...
