Advantages: The music, Perrys obsession with Mrs Patterson
Disadvantages: Can be a bit toilet humour at times
I've always loved this film, not so much for the comedy which is good but a bit crude for my tastes but for the fabulous soundtrack which came with this film. I've been a fan of Ibiza, balaeric beats and house music since it really hit the clubs in the early to nid nineties, I still love the music and this film will always bring back memories of manumission, cafe del mar, and the white beaches of Ibiza in the years of my youth.
The film
Kevin and Perry are two adolescent, nasty, smelly, unpleasant teenagers, they have two ambitions being the best dj mastermixer ever and to get laid. They are convinced that going to Ibiza will give them the opportunity to do both at the same time. They hatch a plan to go, they succeed but with a caveat that Kevins parents come with them.
"Its so like, not fair" but they accept that the only way to get there is to accept the need to travel with these old fuddies.
The film is about that awkward age of between 14 and 17, where girls are strange wonderful and totally unaccessible creatures, so life is filled by music, fashion and occassionally school. Written by Harry Enfield who plays Kevin, and the wonderful Kathy Burke who plays a disturbingly accurate teenage boy. Perry is obnoxious teenager to anyone but Kevins parents who he's the soul of discretion and good behaviour, Kevin however is totally disrespectful to his mum and dad.
Ibiza
So Kevin and Perry get to Ibiza, they are determined to get their mix "All I want to do, is do it" listened to by the top dj eye-ball Paul who mixes at Manumission, and they are also hopeful for getting a bit of action with the girls. Kevins parents Mr and Mrs Patterson are just using the holiday to get in some serious over forties action, much to Perry's delight when he see the pair at it one late night.
So they try to get into the clubs but are deemed to ugly (by the bouncer Paul Whitehouse), so manage to meet Eye-ball Paul (Rhys Ifans) whose an extremely unpleasant character determined to use the two young boys as free work on his apartment, however, he does agree to listen to the boys mixes.
They do meet a couple of skanky girls of their dreams called Candice and Gemma who are dirty, slutty and are Kevin and Perry in reverse. Candice is played by Laura Fraser who in no way be described as ordinary looking and has gone on to star in BBC period drama's. Gemma is played by Tabitha Wady. They play Kevin and Perry along because they can get into the nightclub, then the film comes to its conclusion when Perry lets Kevin down and Kevin returns to the warm embrace of his parents.
A bit of a spoliler about the ending coming up!!!
However, everything comes around and the pair achieve what they set out to do and get a set as DJ's at the nightclub and get the girls.
However, coming back to the music its a perfect illustration of the music playing in Ibiza in the mid to late nineties, the music is mixed by such famous DJ's as judge jules, fat boy, underworld, perfecto, oakenfold etc. The music is perfect for the film and the time of seamless beats, fluid movements and the combination of clubbing, sand, sea, sun and s*x, all of which are Ibiza at that time. The music is played through out the film, my favourite is the seamless music when Kevin is walking through the streets (in the UK) wearing his coat inside out mixed by Fatboy.

Also the music at the end, is a mix by judge jules and is perfect for what happens on the screen, the mixing is seamless for the events in the film at the time. Harry Enfield has written a comedic gem to accompany hardcore clubbing music and re-hashed one of his most famous character from his famous BBC sketch show. However, he is upstaged by Kathy Burkes superb depiction of a pubescent teenage boy whose slightly obsessed with Kevins reasonably hot mum.
Yes, there are detractors in the film - its a bit crude at times especially the infamous floater scene and the vomiting in the club but its a better comedy than that and the music lifts it above the ordinary into a film worth watching more than once.
Summary: A funny film with a great soundtrack.
