This film is terrible.
I watched Kids twice in an attempt to form a more objective opinion. But it was impossible. The themes and events that transpire throughout this film are totally unnecessary and without any artistic merit.
Let me explain why I feel this way about this dog-poo of a movie.
The 'plot' revolves around a group of kids (surprisingly enough) who indulge in various sickening exploits throughout the film - i.e rape, extreme violence and the corruption of girls who are even younger (we're talking 12 year olds here.) than themselves.
The two protagonists, whose names I have thankfully forgotten, stumble through the film from one amoral encounter to another with the main focus on the deflowering of some poor prepubescent girl at a party they are planning to attend that night.
Woven into this soulless, visceral mess is the story of a girl who had sex with one of the main characters and has discovered he's given her aids. Her story revolves around her trying to find this (quite revolting and punchable) boy before he spreads the virus any further.
Thats it!
Ok, look - I'm not some closed minded 40 something who can't see further than their next episode of 'Heartbeat', but I have some strong objections to this film.
Yes - Its hard hitting. Yes - It depicts a state of our youth that is probably quite accurate. Yes - It makes you want to hit something.
But - Who is it aimed at? Certainly not parents, the people with the most power to affect and change the lives of these kids in the story. And not the kids themselves - according to this film they're too busy beating people up and shagging little girls. So who?
There's only one answer to that really. People in their mid-twenties who watch films like 'Bad Boy Bubby' and 'Man Bite Dog'. People who like the voyeuristic, extreme side of film and TV. People who watch the movie for a cheap kick
(which, I have to add, I didn't get myself. I think all of the above are shit.).
So, what was the director thinking?
This movie is the pits.
Avoid at all costs.

PS - If you have kids don't even watch this film as a warning about how they might turn out. Its that bad! And thats coming from someone who grew up in one of Englands worst council estates. I've met the kids in this film growing up where I did and this film is NOT the way to portray their lifestyle/plight/situation.

Please, Please AVOID this dross.
