Crowned Review Kiki's Delivery Service (DVD): Better than DHL (1392 words)

Rating:

Having just posted my Studio Ghibli review, I am now confident that I have whetted your appetite enough to submit my first review on a Ghibli Film. Seeing as it was Halloween last night, what better film to review than Kiki's Delivery Service, first released in 1989 (and the fifth of the Studio Ghibli releases) & directed by the Dappa Don that is Miyazaki. ~The Plot~ Kiki is a young witch who is approaching her 13th birthday. Now it is tradition that every young witch has to leave home at the age of 13 and establish herself in a town or village where there are no other witches, the reasoning is that witches are now very rare and their powers are ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Another amazing film from studio Ghibli (586 words)

Rating:

Released in 1989, Kiki's Delivery Service is the fourth film released by Studio Ghibli, a Japanese animation studio. It is produced, written, and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, which should mean a lot to anyone with an interested in Ghibli films as he's well known for his unequalled skills in creating beautiful animation to match outstanding stories. Kiki's Delivery Service is the story of a 13 year old witch called Kiki. She is following the witch's tradition of leaving home on a full moon whilst a witch is 13 to go to another town on her own where she will establish herself as a witch. Her mum did the same thing when she was 13 and is now the herbalist of the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Kiki's Delivery Service (DVD): Theres Magic In The Air! (842 words)

A coming of age film and one of the first anime movies that Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke) created in the ripe year of 1989 called Kiki's Delivery Service. Which was done a few years after Nausicaa (another film done by Hayao Miyazaki) and before he ventured to the likes of Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. It starts off with a thirteen year old witch that has been waiting for the perfect night for her to go on her travels. As when you become 13, you will have to settle into a town for a whole year to continue with your witch training, and she has been waiting for it for ages. Her name is Kiki, and she hears the weather forecast on her ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review When a witch comes of age, she must seek her own way (411 words)
by - written on 21/08/09 (Very useful, 17 readings)
Rating:

I love Studio Ghibli films, particularly those that are directed by Hayao Miyazaki, who has a real talent for bringing stories to life. Kiki's Delivery Service is centered on Kiki, who, on approaching the age of 13, is now considered an adult witch who must make her own way in the world. It's time to leave home, leave her parents, and make a name for herself as a young witch, using her special skills to help those around her . But, Kiki does not seem to have any special skills, as illustrated inj the start of the film where she can't even make her own broom - she has to borrow her mothers . Still, she sets of , accompanied by her talking black ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Kiki's Delivery Service (DVD): Kiki's Delivery Service (and the best cat you'll even see) (240 words)
by - written on 09/10/08 (Very useful, 62 readings)
Rating:

Kiki's Delivery Service tells the story of Kiki, a young witch who has to leave her small home village to fly (on a broom of course) to a city to complete her witch training. She is accompanied only by her sarcastic black cat Jiji, and when she first arrives in the big city she is alone. She eventually makes friends including a baker and a boy called Tombo but due to her insecurities she begins to loose her witch's powers and she needs all her new friend to help regain them. The animation is trademark Studio Ghibli - perfect, and the soundtrack wonderful (although I have read that two of the songs in the original Japanese version have been changed to English ...  Read the complete review
