Advantages: Story | Characters | Looks | Hayao Miyazaki's

Disadvantages: Not For Everyone

A coming of age film and one of the first anime movies that Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke) created in the ripe year of 1989 called Kiki's Delivery Service. Which was done a few years after Nausicaa (another film done by Hayao Miyazaki) and before he ventured to the likes of Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away.

It starts off with a thirteen year old witch that has been waiting for the perfect night for her to go on her travels. As when you become 13, you will have to settle into a town for a whole year to continue with your witch training, and she has been waiting for it for ages. Her name is Kiki, and she hears the weather forecast on her dad's radio and she ends up going on the same night.

She leaves her family with her cat Jiji which is quite sarcastic a lot, and she heads off on her mothers broom stick to the ocean as she has never seen it before. She finds a city on the coast of an island and she tries to settle in, but she does not have much luck until she finds a bakery which takes her in and lets her stay there.

She had to go on her travels so she can find a profession, but as the only thing she is best at is flying, she will have to work to find out what she can do. She gets convinced to do a delivery service for the bakery she lives at to pay back the nice people there, and that becomes her profession, but with friends she has made come bad stuff later, and she starts to loose her powers and what will she do?

I recently bought this film from amazon.co.uk and thought it was really good, if you end up watching this film you will notice some sort of France parts to it, like the look of the city, the music, the people, that type of thing, it will remind you of that. But the film is good for what I paid for it, considering I don't normally pay that much for a film, but it was really worth buying.

The film is one of my favourite Miyazaki films, it has no action, no bad language, nothing, it has a cracking good story, and that's it, if you don't like films like this, then you should not buy it, but for people whom are intellectual and watch films because of the story then this is for you.

I found this film very enjoyable, one of the best anime films that I have watched in a while, and have watched it twice since I purchased it and will watch it again in the near future, the story will grip you and bring you back for more. The story is very good and that's what makes this film very good, also with the slick little bits of comedy in it, makes it a great film to watch.

The characters performance in this film are brilliant, on how they act, how they react and how they get through with their lives after what happens. Kiki's animated performance is very good, as how she settles in, and how she gets through her life as a young witch. The characters in the film you will like, there is no one in it that you wish was not in it, so it is all good.

There is no real special effects in this, like there isn't really any I any animated films, so can't really comment about it. The soundtrack of the film is very good, the music is pleasant yet soothing, will keep you entertained and set the mood of what is going on, Hayao Miyazaki chooses his music very well.

Hayao Miyazaki's directing is very good, how you will see every point of her life, on how she is coping and handling life on her own without her parents, there is emotion bought into the film and lots of fun waiting for Kiki. This film is worth getting if you love Hayao Miyazaki movies, and if you love anime in general, but if you are not into watching films without action, then this is not for you. This film costs £13.99 which is the price I paid for it; it is the same price on Play.com and amazon.co.uk.

I really enjoyed this film, a great anime, and wonderful looks, one of my favourite Miyazaki films. I shall give this film 5 star * * * * *, as I loved it, and could watch it again and again without it boring me.

I've not seen Spirited Away yet, or the other one, Howl's Moving Castle. Needs rectifying. Good review :)
